Decided to get up and try to photograph the sunrise.
Excellant tones and colors. You did well.
Nice shot.
But I want to address your dust issue. Are you sure this is dust on your sensor? With the 5D Mark II, you have the automatic sensor cleaner that helps eliminate dust (if you have it turned on). My "cleaner" runs everytime I turn the camera on...and off (on my 3 week old 5D MarkII). If your 5D is new, I would hope it is not full of dust already.
You didn't mention what lens you used, but I hope you had a dirty lens. Easier to clean than a sensor.

It's hard to photograph the sunrise here where I live...there are no amazing beaches for the sun to come up over...there are more hills here than Deer!...there just isn't a flat place in the whole state!
So it's really hard to figure out how to get a good sunrise...
I went to a local lake this morning and there was a lot of mist hanging over it...so i set up the tripod on a dock and gave it a shot.
I took about 15 or 20 shots and 3 came out well enough to not be embarrassed about.
Here is the best of the bunch. I tried to include some foreground interest in the very large cattails.
This is my first shots with my new 5D MKII using a small aperture and I had a LOT of sensor dust!! I must have cloned out about 20 large spots.

Looks beautiful! I like the cattails in the foreground. Good strong colors, too. Nice.

Thank you!
You're living in SF you should get great shots! I honeymooned there and it was amazing!...I'd like to return someday and take more shots.

Great sunrise shot. Just goes to show that it doesn't mater where you live. Great pictures are everywhere.

I'm confused. I had no idea that you had to have a beach (or a flat place) in order to have a sunrise. I think people in Colorado, Idaho, etc., might argue with you.
One way to photograph sunrises is to photograph sunsets and call it a sunrise. No one other than you knows; I sure wouldn't. I'd take your word for it. lol

Lol...I just meant that with so many hills....the view keeps changing depending on what hill you are coming over and where the sun is in relation to that particular hill!
At least with the flat ocean sunrise there are no surprises...no matter where you are as long as you can see the water :)

I like your photo art rpavich. I always like silhouettes in the forground. I nailed it. David in Florida If you google TPE (I don't have the site now) you can download a free sunrise, sunset, moon rise, moon set live map with your location. This will tell you where and when to look. TPE The Photogropher's Ephemeris is the site name.

This is a very nice picture and the foreground cattails are just a small part of the interest... I love the surface fog too...

You made a very nice photograph of the sunrise. the colors are great. I do a lot of sunsets here in Florida...
Would that be Cheat Lake? Coopers Rocks is beautiful. You will get fantastic photos there in every season but autumn is spectacular. Go WVU Mountaineers!
