Just this week I purchased Lightroom 6 from B&H for my iMac. It downloaded and installed without any problem, but when I tried to use it there was a problem with the library. I called B&H and the Apple support folks there solved my problem in a few minutes, by doing a search on the Adobe site. They did a great job!

Lightroom 6 and lightroom 6 cc are the same program

it depends on with what license key you use which version you get.

perpetual license key you get lightroom 6 standalone and no haze filter
cc license key and you get to pay rent for the rest of your life, or until you change your mind.

it is the same program that is downloaded.

If you are considering going into rental mode, wait 10 months or so.
if you rent lightroom your paying $9.99 a month with a minimum contract of a year so $120 ok $119.88.
The standalone version of lightroom 6 is $99 and you own it forever windows or mac (or both) you are allowed 2 installs.

Anything you do in lightroom 6 standalone will still be there if you change to the cc version.

So why rent now? Do you really need the haze filter that much?

Even if you buy the brand new not even on the drawing board nikon 900, eventually there will be a version of adobes free dng converter to bring the raw file to a version of raw that lightroom 6 can open.

Most plugins have a standalone option or can be launched as external editors in lightroom.

It looks like I finally have LR 6 working on my MacBook. I've been working on this for at least two days, and I spent an hour on Adobe Chat to get it resolved. The only way to get it to work was to make a new identity for a user on the Mac. Very strange.

This is not a rare occurrence nor confined to Macs. I have Widows 7, LR 4 and LR 5 both in the same user ID. LR CC had to be installed in new user ID, but the catalogue remains in the old user ID. The images are in a "public" user ID.

A couple of days ago, I downloaded LR6 for Windows and Mac. It works on Windows, but it will not go beyond 99% installing on the MacBook. Then I get a message saying the Adobe installer encountered a problem. It accepted my key numbers for versions 5 and 6, but it cannot complete the installation.

So, I thought I'd download it again, but I can't find anything but CC in LR6, although I was able to download LR5, but that won't go beyond 99% either.

So, where can I find LR6 to download?

I have been trying to install Lightroom_6_LS11.dmg

Went to Blackest's Windows link (next to last) and somehow got the following link to a standalone upgrade for $79.99.

I had problems loading LR6, the reason was that my PC was a 32bit machine. I had to bite the bullet and reload windows 8.1 64 bit. Which is a pain but ultimately worth while.

Thanks. I had already paid for it, so I didn't want to pay again.

After an hour on Chat with Adobe, I made up a new user, and that non-person was able to load and run LR6. The thing is, that guy didn't even pay or go through several frustrating days of installation. He just signed in, clicked on LR, and it worked fine. So now I have two people using my MBP, me and me. :D

Yes, Adobe has generously offered to let my buy the upgrade again, but since the one I already bought and downloaded doesn't install, I'd rather not pay again.

It is extremely difficult to find the stand-alone version of LR6 on their site. I guess I'm lucky I found it the first time. I have it running on my Windows machine, but I want to get it on my MacBook to bring with me.

EDIT: Another thing. I finally gave in and thought I'd try Chat. I had to go through a long selection process for the program, problem, etc. Then it said, "Ready to begin a Chat?" I clicked on that and was brought back to the questionnaire. Just one big circle.

But their sales dept transactions always go smoothly. Just don't expect tech support...at least not in English. LOL

Yes. Sales go very smoothly. I prefer Chat to telephone because there's no rush, and I can read the writing and check my computer as we progress.

I'd like to know why it works when signing in as a different user.

Just out of curiosity, did you try running the cleanup tool that Adobe has on their site to address install/uninstall issues?
It "might" be worth a try to uninstall LR6, run the cleanup tool. then reinstall.
At least you would know if you could clean it up so that only YOU can run the app and not an alter ego! :)
Just a thought

I couldn't find that choice. I could click on Buy and then chose the full version or the upgrade. There was no trial. I thought I was downloading LR6 onto my iMac, and it turned out to be CC version.
