Is it also a sail boat?

If it is 'just' a power boat, how did he 'motor' from UK to USA on 1 tank of fuel?

Great pix & a GREATER story! I agree, such a shame to demo it!

Yes, it is a sailboat. The one screw you see is driven by a small engine - just enough to get it to dock among other boats and maintain control easier in close quarters.

I love old stuff. Seem's to me at some point in life things like that take on a whole new look that can only come with age!

Yes, Don, I know exactly what you mean. That's what caught my eye when I first saw it.

A couple months ago, I was having breakfast in a nearby restaurant in Rehoboth Beach, DE. A gentleman was seated next to my table speaking with the owner of the establishment. I noticed the man spoke with an English accent so I struck up a conversation with him. He asked if I noticed the old boat in the yard of a home down the road about a half mile. I said yes and I just loved that old boat. It was very interesting to me. He commenced to tell me that it was his boat and he sailed it from the UK in 1983 to Delaware and he and the boat has been here ever since. We finished our conversation as his breakfast arrived. He later told me the boat is not salvageable in its present state and he will eventually have it torn up and disposed of.
It was then I made a mental note to try to get some pictures of that boat before it's hauled off.
So, have a look and I hope you too find it interesting.

Thanks, Sidney. According to the owner, the interior is so bad it wouldn't be worth it to refurbish it and make it seaworthy.

Yes. It's time to let his "Mistress" go. She did what he wanted her to do, had his way with her and soon as she was showing her age, he cast her away.

Not easy, but it's definitely restorable. Think about it. It's a wood boat and it was built by man's hand in the first place.

Now consider that if gently and completely disassembled, one would have all the parts needed to patterns to re-create anew.

I've been restoring old cars for years. One only needs an original on whatever condition to make a new versions (restoration)

There are boatyards all over the country restoring the original glory back to boats such as these.

Every once in a while, I drive up to one of the boatyards in Anacortes Washington and spend a week, mostly watching progress on similar projects.

Frankly, that boat looks pretty good, but it's definitely not "scrape off the barnacles" and throw a coat of paint on it.

For someone, if given a chance, it will be a labor of love and likely be able to take the new owner back to the UK.

You're probably right, but the owner is well into his sixties and not up to the task and great expense to do what you 're saying. And, he's probably had no offers to take it off his hands either.
I appreciate your comments and thanks for looking.

Thank you, sailorsmom. Yes, pictures are always more interesting when there's a story behind them. That's what made me determined to get the shots even more after I heard the story about the boat.
