I have been using 32G cards. I usually carry a laptop with me, however this time I will not be. I plan to purchase some additional cards for a trip coming up.

Anyone have any issues with using 64g cards in a D7100 or problems with transferring to a computer. Win 7 is the op sys.

I am using 64 GB cards in Nikon D600 and Sony A7r and have no problems with either camera or pc, using Win 7 also.

I have used SanDisk 64gb cards in my D7100 without issue, but normally use SanDisk Extreme Pro 32gb cards in both slots...Just switched over to Windows 10 from Windows 7 & no issues with either card in my computers...

I have not heard of any problems using the 64Gb, or 32Gb cards in camera slots. As long as you take care in how you transfer images from camera to computer; use the USB interface cable available for your camera.

I have seen dozens of Canon digital camera fail after 4 months of use when the cards were removed from camera, inserted into card readers, and then inserted back into the camera. Contact pins inside the camera became bent, or broken, and some card contacts scored.

32GB cards are all SDHC cards. 64GB cards are all SDXC cards. Many cameras will not recognize the SDXC format, however your D7100 will recognize them and has actually been tested by Nikon for compatibility. The tested and approved 64GB cards are from Sandisk and Panasonic. There is always a chance that other 64GB cards may not be compatible, but that chance is pretty slim.
See page 347 of your manual for a list of tested cards in your D7100.

I never use any cards greater than 16GBs because if you lose the card or it becomes corrupted you will only lose one forth of the pictures if the same thing happens to a 64 GB card. Cards are so inexpensive, it makes sense to me to carry a couple more cards rather than take the change of loosing pictures that I have taken. Good luck.

For what it is worth had my first cared failure or semifaliure when I switched to 64 cards. Having taken perhaps 150,000 photos over the years and never having had a problem, I did when I purchased some 64G \lexor pro 10 cards. Staying with 32 or less. Could be a fluke and guess could have retrieved the images with the appropriate software but would rather avoid that.

If the OP will forgive a slight drift...a question about the various methods of transferring the files.

To the best of my knowledge there are three ways to get the files into the computer: 1) Built-in slot in the computer (MAC). 2) USB cord shipped with the camera. 3) Dedicated card reader for multi-size cards.

I have used all three at one time or another. All worked fine and I could detect no difference.

Bigger is always better but faster is must also be considered. Check with your camera manual. The newest cards have a transfer rate of 280 MB/sec. Many cards are at 80 and 90 MB/sec.

I go for 8G cards so if something happens to one, I won't lose all my pictures. Also, I can dedicate a card to specific types of photos and a different one for others, ie people vs landscapes etc.

fjrwillie, I have a D7000 with two SD card slots (like yours). I shoot in RAW and fine jpeg. I use a 64 Gb in one slot, dedicated to RAW images and a 32 Gb in the other dedicated to the jpegs. With this set I can shoot about 1,700 images. The 64 is a PNY Pro and the 32 is a Sansdisk. I have been using these cards for three years with no issues. I do download and format after each shooting session. I also carry an extra set with me for backup.

I have a couple 64gb cards in my D7100 and they work fine. However, I like to stick with 32gb cards. I get over 1000 RAW+Jpeg on a card. I also always use the 2nd slot as a duplicate backup because I'm just not willing to lose another days shooting. 1000 shots handles more than a day on any shoot I've ever done.

I have been using two 64 GB cards Since I got my D7100 almost 2 years ago. Never had a problem.
