I have an olympus E3 which I absolutely love but since I have only had one other camera besides my many olympus cameras, I guess I am not a impartial contributor. I have the wide angle zoom and standard Zweico (sp?) lenses and they are spectacular. I have been an Olympus fan since the eighties when I had an OM1. I wish the manual with my E3 was a little clearer, though. I am looking for a better way to get specific questions answered. I hope that this forum will help. Can any of you make a recommendation?

BigD, they do and they do.
I have thought about another lens for my pen. i am using the 17mm right now, however, i haven't found any thing to test, and i like to test out a lens before purchase
Well if you want a suggestion for a darn good all around lens the 12-60 SWD has a lot going for it. Its super sharp and has a good focal length, its fast (aperture and Auto Focus), well sealed, and the Macro is pretty sweet too. Overall its considered one of the best lenses ever made and I can't complain, I have one pretty much always on one of my bodies for that emergency shot.

Something else you might look at is the Elite Video series on the E3. They literally walk you through the camera and every single function so you get to know what everything does. Its WAY better than the manual haha.
I'm an Olympus user, too. E-420. I like it because it's fairly light to carry around. If you travel a lot, get to know your cameras quick features on the ring. There are several modes that could be very useful in different travel situations. There are still things I'm learning so hang in there and just keep shooting.
BigD,
On that swd lens, how do you like the shift fstop?
That isn't one of my favorite things for my lenses. Perhaps i am just being stubborn, but i like the 2.8 to remain through the focal range.
Yep that 12-60 does have smoking fast focus on E3 and e620 and it is not bad at all on the Oly. Pen even with the adapter!! Yes that big monster lens you have would look funny on a pen Bigd-hey it would turn heads for sure.. Those adapters open up a new world and make those lenses even more useful, and above all fun.

Well naturally I would prefer that it kept a constant f2.8 but thats a different class of lens. They make a "Super High Grade" 14-35 mm that keeps an f/2.0 that runs for about $2,300.00 bucks. Compared to the $1,000.00 the 12-60 runs I find it does just fine. It's all about your wallet, if you want a fixed aperture lens that doesn't change you just have to have the financing available :-)
Yes we go as far as our wallet will take us,but if we could afford anything we want-what would we have to look forward to and wish for my friend.
Like you said that 12-60 is good enough Bigd (for now).

Yessir its like the law, you can have as much justice as you can afford haha.
I know, but i am spoiled with my other systems.
Bidsteve, mentioned an adaptor, so this lens on the pen has to have an adaptor? If so, i believe i looked at this lens last year and with the adapto it sounded strange as if the focus feature was grinding away. My dealer and I tried several different models of the same lens and decided i would pass. Off the top of my head that might have been the lens. I will have to check in the morning, or go by and try it out as perhaps changes have been made in the firmware, or.......
thanks for the tip

Thank you. I became an Olympus person by a whim. I think I get some decent pictures, but I am very much an amateur. I look at all the pictures I can find on line to try and learn as much as I can. I paid a lot of money for some workshops for beginners and wasted both my time and money. I wanted more info and less chit chat!
I am trying to send a photo from Lucerne
Nice shots MMurphy,
The last time I was on that covered bridge in Lucerne, was in 1952. Still looks the same. Which Olympus were you using?
Olympus is the leader in providing you with features you didn't know you wanted but can not live without. They always seem to be the front runner. I've used their products since film.
I am a little late answering. The camera I was using in Lucerne was the Olympus SPUZ 800. It is great for fast and unencumbered travel, and the magnifying lense is very convenient. I have an Olympus E-620, but just learning to use it, and only take it on my US travels. Thank you for your comments!
