Olympus camera owners out there?
Olympus is underrated for sure, have the e3 and e620 and my new now favorite e-pl1 pen. Got the pen couple days ago and was floored how good it is for a (baby dslr).
The is something to be said about the Olympus colors that the big boys have a hard time matching I think! As was mentioned before the Zuiko lenses are some of the best made
period. But you get no respect carrying one around for sure, but you can image right with them if not better.(of course the big gun users will never admit that)
fivedawgs the queen of the olympians said it well Olympus pretty much does only one thing and does it well make cameras.
Very true indeed. The most popular canon lens on the sports scene is BY FAR their 70 - 200 f/2.8 I L. Its a great lens and if I shot Canon I would have it too. When I shoot indoor sports like Volleyball or Basketball I use the 35-100 (70-200 equivalent) f2.0, its the same focal length but a full stop faster. Its a big huge spendy beast but the images I get are simply amazing. And with the built in IS its stabilized too. Then I go outside and shoot Night Football and the 90-250 (180-500 mm) f/2.8 (Zoom Lens) comes out and its lights out, screw that sucker onto a gripped E3 and you'll get some comments. Canon and Nikon have nothing even close to that baby. And if your really nuts Olympus has their 600 mm f/2.8 monster as well.
Olympus 35-100 mm f2.0 Zoom
Olympus 90-250 mm f2.8 zoom
Very right Bigd...Also just before received in mail my mmf-2 adapter to mount my four thirds lenses on e-pl1, again floored with this little setup,
I have 12-60,14-54,14-150,70-300,18-180 and they work great may focus a hair slower hardly any problem at all really. Made my micro pen more useful now,and yes those Olympus colors still shine through.
Funny thing my worst lens was the 18-180mm and now on the pen with adapter seems to render the best colors and sharpness???But is slowest focusing on the pen but when it locks on (touchdown). Strange how one certain lens seems to work best on one certain camera.
ONCE I figure out to post pictures here will fire a couple over....they just seem to hang up and never go on even waiting long time??
I have an Olympus SP-510UZ.
I picked it for the view finder plus screen, standard AA batteries, and good hand hold.
For a reasonable price, it has performed very well, and when I learn how, I'll send some shots.
HomerL
my nikon has two command dials, one in front one in back. However, it took me awhile to get over not changing the fstop from the lens

I have been reading a lot about these new Electronic View Finder cameras and it sounds like Olympus is right in there. And their cameras use the Micro 4/3rds Mount so with the adapter you could use all the Zuiko Bad Boy lenses. Another plus for the Oly camp is the AF Speed. The E3 with the 12-60 SWD Lens is said to be the fastest on the planet and having both I know it is super fast. Not sure about the fastest but I have no complaints.
Have you tested teh Zuiko with the pen ?
Actually, taking what BigD accurately said about image stabilization and older 35mm lenses and combining it with the other thread out here about the steals (no kidding!) on Ebay, this is exactly where Olympus (and my E-620) has the edge.
One Fotodiox 4/3 adaptor ($26) and I'm in business with a bunch of excellent lenses! There is some outstandingly good 'old' glass out there for pennies on the dollar

Yeah Nikon and Olympus both do it that way, and Canon is up on top. They all work but the Olympus and Nikon are (to me) a better layout for those of us who shoot manual mode, its just a preference. I know I won't use a camera that does not have two dials as its just too slow to make changes. I remember having to change the F/stop on the lens back in my AE1 and Canon F1days. (yeah I had Canon's)

Which Adapter do you use the Olympus OM to 4/3rds?

I personally do not have a Pen but If I'm not mistaken they use the Micro 4/3rds mount. And I know there is an adapter that will allow you to use the larger 4/3rds lenses on the micro 4/3rds systems. Imagine using that 90-250 zoom on a little tiny Pen Body HaHa, and those pictures of the lenses does not show them with their hoods which makes them look even more monstrous...

Yes. Here you go - and they've brought the price down to <$20! -

Thanks I'll have to order one and do some playing. One area where Olympus is a bit behind is in the Prime area, they have very few but the old OM Mounts are out there...
I love OLY!
If they had a built-in viewfinder and flash on the PEN, I would own one. As it is I have a C-2100 UZ or UZI that doubles as an IR camera, without modification and takes great visible light photos too.
A C-3040, the bomb in its day, but now sees the least amount of use. Still takes great photos.
A C-8080, my 'serious' photography camera. I will stack it's 8MP images up against most entry-level SLR's with kit lenses and send them crying home to Mama. Rumor has it that the lens on the 8080 was the model for the Zuiko 12-60. Plenty of manual controls but it does just fine in 'P' mode too.
Finally I have a 720 SW, a bullet proof camera waterproof to 10', shock proof from a 5' drop. The 720 is on me at all times except when I'm sleeping or in the shower. It has the worst images of all my cameras, but it is still pretty good and there is something to be said for a tiny camera (smaller than a deck of cards) that you don't have to baby.
I like Oly colors best and they have all proven to be very reliable cameras. I am an Oly fanboy and not ashamed of it.
Eric
ps a couple from last weeks kayak trip with the 720, I didn't dare risk my other cameras on the water but the 720 didn't flinch on a choppy, windy lake.
BigD, they do and they do.
I have thought about another lens for my pen. i am using the 17mm right now, however, i haven't found any thing to test, and i like to test out a lens before purchase
