If enough money is collected from hunters and used for wildlife conservation, there could be a net gain. Around here we have deer hunting. It's a tradition and it's done for meat. We have too many deer and I've seen many die of starvation (in Michigan) so I don't mind. Killing for "sport", is just plain sick.

Just had an email from a friend in Harare.

The dentist shot the lion with a crossbow and made a hash of it in poor light. The lion ran off, was left for almost two days while the hunting party tried to find it. The dentist then finished the job with a rifle.

Lots of anger locally as the lion was something of a local celebrity. The local hunters are being charged today and in court, there is a lot of hope they will get a stiff jail term.

As it was put - we get praised for shooting rhino poachers, why the hell should we allow these people to come here and kill our lions?

Looks like charges will be set against the dentist but he seems to have left the country; it is doubted he will want to return.

I'm glad that this lowlife is the hunted one now . Hope he suffers .

The Minnesota dentist Walter Palmer clearly gets pleasure out of causing pain to animals. Does he get the same sort of pleasure from causing pain to human beings?

I hope they put him down for 15 years without remission for good behaviour.

Whoopee. Zimbabwe formally asks for the Minesota Idiot to be extradited.

Assuming this happens (the US is very good at extraditing people from around the world, the record for extraditing them to the rest of the world is not so great) and he is found guilty he gets time in a Zimbabwean jail. That is not fun I understand.

We will have to expect that this will not happen though; under its present incumbent president Zimbabwe does not have a reputation for justice, just mass murder.

Whatever possessed this evil person to murder a lion.
This isn't hunting it's extermination.
I hope he gets the punishment he deserves.

I just heard last night for the first time that Cecil even had a GPS collar on so there was no hunt involved.

There's a bunch of people protesting at the dentist's house and office (they also found out he has a home here in Naples) who would be more than glad to shoot his ass repeatedly with bows and arrows, so he better build a hut in Zimbabwe and stay there.

It is easier for a black man to hid in the good old USA then is for a white guy to hid in Africa.
I just heard that someone shot Cecil's brother. He was protecting the pride.

HAD A PERSON HERE IN ARIZONA PAY $350,000 TO SHOOT A TROPHY ELK. IT WAS A GUIDED HUNT. THE MONEY GOES TO HELP THE WILD LIFE AND THE LANDS. THE SAME IS TRUE IN MANY AREAS. HAD A FRIEND THAT PAYED $30,000 TO HUNT SHEEP IN CANADA A FEW YEARS BACK. WHERE DO YOU THINK THAT MOST STATES GET THERE MONEY TO MANAGE WILDLIFE. FROM THE HUNTER, FISHERMEN AND THE SALES OF ALL THEIR STUFF.
THIS HAS GOTTEN BLOWN WAY OUT OF HAND.
MORE CRAP ABOUT THIS THAN THE FOUR MARINES THAT GOT KILLED.

CECIL THE LION
CECIL THE LION...

From this I take it you are of the huntin' shootin' and fishin' fraternity so will continue to mindlessly support the killing with this excuse that this is how the wildlife preservation is funded.

My experience in Africa is that NONE of the hunt money goes anywhere near wildlife preservation unless you count the game farms and hunt guides as part of wildlife preservation (we don't). The license fees that get paid fund general government.

You make a crude generalisation that I suspect you will continue to argue when the last lion disappears under the hail of gunfire of the wannabe rambos.

The difference is this is a protected animal , cows ,pigs , chickens and allot of fish are bread for human consumption , they would not be bread or exist in the numbers they do if we did not have a use for them.
As for your stance on to be born humans , that is a completely different subject.

no it isn't. It is called respect for life if lions lives get more attention and anger of the general public then the harvesting of human organs like pp was dr Frankenstein or Dr Josef Mengela and the other Nazi war criminals who performed all sorts of evil experiments on Jewish prisoners. There is something very wrong here where is the moral outrage? apparently a lions life is more important then humans. Ban funding from planned parenthood and transfer funding to all county health departments.
