The lady that does my computer work suggested that I leave Windows 10 alone.

I'm with you on that. I like my Win 7. I have a tablet that I never use and still have a flip phone. Win 10 just doesn't appeal to me.

Every time I start the computer, it tries to download Win10. Then it says it can't, but it doesn't know why.

HI Jerry,

What components are in your system. How old is it? If it is "ancient", it may not have sufficient power to run Win 10. Also, It might be wise waiting to see reviews, I suspect there are still "bugs". One of them may very well be why your system cannot upgrade.

Just a thought

Could be any number of things. Standard Microsoft advice is to unplug all devices from the computer. Uninstall your video drivers before attempting the install.

Then there is the Media Creation Tool: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

That is what finally got me the full version.

Wifi and Win 10. If I read this correctly Win 10 will scan Outlook, Facebook and etc and those contacts will be able to connect automatically to your wifi. CNet also stated that you won't be able to pick and choose from your contacts. It's all or nothing. I think I understood that. Brings me to another point, what about android devices, TV, and other devices that are connected to wifi home network that are set up on the wirless home network with passwords ? Will they be left alone to operate as usuall ? One other thing if I got this right is the passwords are saved to a magical cloud encrypted. Got notified I should be able to download Win 10 in a couple of days to a few weeks. After reading about the wifi situation not sure about upgrading. Don't like the idea of loosing control of my PC and router. Crap is getting to darn invasive.

The update problem is with an older Win7 machine. This one is a Dell Core i7 with 16GB of memory that I got in January. It has been updating Win8 with no problem. Another attempt to download Win10 just failed. The message from MS: "We don't know why."

Dell Core i7 from January. SSD boot drive and 4GB D: drive for data. It has been getting updates for Win8 with no problem.
