There's a Broadband provider in the UK called TalkTalk I also get my mobile phone from then. I decided to get a new phone and sent the old one back and they acknowledged receipt then I found they were charging me for both phones and insisted I had not sent the old phone back. Uk users beware,

I'm looking at the photograph by your name, is that a Lancaster? My uncle was a B-17 pilot in WW2 stationed in Southhampton I believe. Your nickname indicates a Vickers however and I'm thinking the Lancaster was built by AVRO. Not that knowledgeable about British aircraft.

I would switch to another ISP! All I had to do was call for an increase and it went from 15 to 50 with no increase in cost.

Cable companies are great for switching cable plans that give an increase in bandwidth or additional channels "at no cost", but later they get you, like changing from the price you are quoted and paying, to a new price with a "discount" as a line item on your account, then they can raise the price anytime they like and you still get your "discount", even though you end up paying more they will tell you you still get your 15% discount.

It's all in the spin ;)

If I can get my same internet speed another way, I would drop cable for satellite in a heart beat.

English is not always specific and can be taken literally. Your question asks about "increase". Then, the cost of "that". "That" as well as "increase" can both be referring to either the cost of increased service OR cost of making the change to your service. Obviously, the CS rep took it to mean cost of making the change. And it's further propagated by Go ahead and do "it".

Not saying that anyone is wrong here. However using a pronoun to refer to something in a previous sentence during a two-way conversation is prone to error. Especially when one of the speakers is non-english.

It makes me a bit cranky when I get "out foxed" by a marketer. But in my case my ISP, Cable & Phone provider was clear that the initial rate was a promotional rate. When it changed I got angry at myself... Called finally made it to the "Account Retention Department " and they folded and continued my special rate😎... I ran one of my best "Wounded Chicken" rants if I say so myself and net I saved $90/month

I don't know how the cable companies get away with their fraudulent advertising - "Only $49.95 a month" (for the first 12 months.... ) then the price doubles!

It's called a monopoly.

My son was in the room and while I was on hold, he suggested that there probably was a charge to increase it and I should ask what the additional would be on my bill. The "no charge" apparently applies to the guy answering the phone then typing in the changes. The increase was actually a little over $60 a month.

I told the guy I thought that was misleading, but his English was not good and he didn't understand my comment.

What do you think? Am I being picky? Or was this deliberately misleading.
I called my internet provider (Century Link). Thi... (show quote)

Here in Phoenix Century Link tries just about anything to get me to leave Cox which I will not do. No surprise to me.

And finally the monopoly for cable service is about to go the way of the dodo bird in the Quad-Cities. Up to now, we have had Mediacom and a substandard Century-Link.

Now Century-Link is beginning an expansion and will provide fiber optic cable to the home. A group from Geneseo, IL is going to start offering fiber optic cable to the home and is also testing a hight-speed area WiFi system.

Mediacom has a huge fixed investment.

We are moving to an area that will have the Century-Link fiber. Mediacom will not install infrastructure until the neighborhood is all built. Since the will not pre install, they are out of my consideration.

TV will probably be over the air (10-12 HD channels available), with a small selection of other channels as this segment of the industry evolves into selective subscription services. I hate paying for 150+ channels when, when I watch 8-10.

My $0.02

You are right about that. I almost, always end up talking to someone in India who doesn't speak English.

really? how about that new commercial - can a jellyfish really improve your memory? OUR scientists say yes. their scientists! ha ha ha. how about all the commercials that say what they do then flash a tiny disclaimer for 2 seconds saying they really don't do that. there's a lot of misleading going on. the government is good at it too. the irs head guy is a real puke.
