I merely am suggesting a simple/free way to protect your equipment if you get caught in a downpour. It doesn't fold as easily as the Ziploc but I have a feeling I will put this new found bag to good use ... either outside or inside for storage.

Thanks for the tip Howard.

I've used a small (bathroom sized garbage bag). Secured it to the lens hood with a rubber band, and poked a small hole for the viewfinder. Secured the small hole with by placing it under the eyepiece. Mostly do outdoor sports; works like a charm. Basically a jerry rigged version of the opteka cover, but the rubber bands work even better

Thank you for your response. It's nice to see other people innovating. You might want to consider my idea of turning the bag around and securing the bottom to the front of the lens with a screw on filter holder - it looks more "professional" :-)
When I shot at the racetrack I always carried trash bags with me. They were large enough to cover my camera and long lens and saved my equipment from the instant downpours we got in the summer.
My only comment about using the zippered bags is that the seams might not be waterproof, as they're not intended for that. Treating the seams with seam seal helps. I love those bags. I even purchased a set of sheets to get one! They're great for all sorts of purposes. But I do treat the seams before using them.
I found out the hard way that ziplock bags aren't necessarily waterproof! I carried film in them on a hiking trip where I had to wade deep water. Ruined film!

OK!!! Let's STOP now.
I SIMPLY SUGGESTED A SOURCE OF A PLASTIC BAG TO PUT EQUIPMENT INTO IN CASE OF RAIN. YOU WANT TO BUY SOMETHING? ... BUY SOMETHING! I SEE NO REASON FOR THE COMMENTS I'M STARTING TO SEE. NOTHING IN MY SUGGESTION HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH MONEY. YES, I MENTIONED THE WORD FREE BUT NOT IN THE CONTEXT OF SAVING $10 BUT MERELY TO POINT OUT THERE ARE ITEMS WE MIGHT NOT THINK OF THAT WILL SERVE A NEED. LEAVE IT AT THAT.

Sad to say, you have to expect that on this site. Along with fifty comments after the problems has been solved. Your suggestion is a good one.

Thanks for the suggestion. For years I carried a folded up lawn tash bag to keep the sudden downpour or snowfall off my gear. And the ZIP locks and gaffer tape to the lens hood have kept me shooting for a few minutes. Not for shooting or technical work, just like an emergenncy raincoat.
But the chance for a zipper, too!?!!?!? Cool.
And sure, I'll buy the Optec or the Altura. But I'm finding I'm a heck of alot LESS weatherproof that I used to be.
Some folks just must respond to stimulation. Don't let their comments stop you from passing on practical stuff that we can all use in an EMERGENCY!
It makes me think about that non-existant long line of purchasers of my fine art photos and how much they're potentially NOT paying me to stand out in the rain capturing the etherial special images just for them NOT to buy.
Reorters on Assignemnt, yes. Superannuated hobbyist, NO!
In addition to rain, there is the automated lawn sprinkler. As an architectural photographer, I usually ask what time of day the irrigation system comes on. For the assignments that they don't know, I made a special dark cloth for my view camera. On side is black cotton, the other is white Gortex that protects from both the sun's heat and rain. The focusing cloth is large enough to completely cover the camera and can be flung over it in a second. One needs only a good fabric store and a sewing machine.
I now declare that the thread has officially unraveled.

Hey, good idea. Thanks for the suggestion. I have the rain sleeves the shooter mentioned as well, but you make a good point in putting that we all come across to good use.

Since you have now declared the thread unraveled, I'll try to unravel it more. If one buys an OM-D body and a premium or pro lense, one does not need rain covers - only a way to keep the water off the front lense element.
All kidding aside, thanks Howard5252 for helping us UHHs to think outside the "box". There are plenty of things and equipment other than just cameras that need protection from water.
If you have a camera with a large lens you might also consider the opting for a more expensive solution for to cover the lens and body and still provide access to the controls, the LCD screen and camera control you might want to consider taking a look at the Think Tank Hydrophobia
http://www.thinktankphoto.com/categories/rain-covers/hydrophobias.aspx. Keep in mind that you have to order an eyepiece that is made to work with your camera body that is made to work with the Think Tank Hydrophobia.

Oh look, Howard. You can solve your problem, by spending money. What a concept.
