Macs seem to ask for a password to do almost anything. Maybe it's asking for the Mac password before allowing the user to make changes.

Correct about the App, but the password is on the device. At least on mine. Very tiny though.

my tablet, laptop and smart phone all use it and it does NOT require a password.. not sure what is happening with yours. Also all can connect to my wide area network and local lan but I have to disconnect all and create a separate account for the camera wi-fi

Whenever I add anything into my Macbook Pro it asks for a password. That is always the password I used to log onto my computer.
Try that.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. If I had better eyes I would never have written my post. Turns out, under magnification, the password is given on the unit. I'm learning to get out my magnifier first on these tiny components.
Yes , an APP was needed for my cell phone. Haven't tried my lap top to see what I can learn. Doubt it will have any meaningful use. Thanks again to all who commented. I'm Happy to report all is well.

Lap top doesn't recognize the WU-1a signal anymore. This add on for the D7100 was never intended to interface with my Lap Top, Mobile only. I just was confused when my lap top was asking for a password.

I'm glad this has been settled. Throw out enough ideas, and something is bound to work.

On my Mac I never defined a password, so when the password panel comes up I just hit the go button - that is, so far as the Mac is concerned the password is a blank.

If I understand what others are saying, the password would be on the bottom label of the router (the unit that attaches to the computer, like an antennae, sending and receiving the signals through the air. It is just a box with electronics in it) itself. It had me up in a tree when I tried to set up wireless too. For instance when you want your laptop to communicate with the computer, it asks for a password. A camera would be the same.

Mac Pro recognizes the wireless device but says I need a password. I find no password in instructions, literature that came with wireless unit WU-1a. I need Help Everything I search tells me how to recover a password but I never had one to start with. The unit is so small there is no room for a password to be printed. Anyone have an idea where to start? Thanks in advance

I stand corrected. It has a password for when the push button connection fails. Since mine remembers it each time now, I had forgotten that part.

try the password required to log-in on your computer.
