If I were going on a 7-10 day cruise I would take four of my favorite lenses. Each day I would rotate them. I have about 9 lenses and I never use them all. I think rotating lenses each day the first four days would do two things for me. I could look at the results and decide which lens is best for various situations. And I would get to experiment with lenses I rarely use. That's just me. I hope you have a great trip and take many terrific photos.

You need all 3 unless you go brave and add a compete MFT kit with same lenses and less weight. To be serious, DO NOT forget polarizing lenses. If you're lucky enough to see Mt. Denali without clouds (a 30% chance and assuming you take one of the excursions from Anchorage), your images will be amazing.
If you can arrange and afford it, sea plane tours, especially out of Sitka, will give you tremendous photo-ops. Before you commit, ask the pilot if he can look for and land on a lake near enough to great wildlife (bears & cubs, moose with calves) to add other than sea life to your album. You will get out of the plane and walk around on the pontoons. Once in a lifetime op.

What a coincidence! It seems that someone else has asked a similar question.

I don't think you need the 35mm, but bring all them with you, the 35 is not that heavy anyway! I am going to Alaska next week too, I am on the sea-land cruise, I will bring two cameras plus 4 lenses (ranging from 21mm -400mm), this will cover everything.
Have a nice journey!

Having taken an Alaskan Inland Passage two week cruise a few years ago, I think your 55 - 300 mm would probably end up being your walk around lens and is probably the most convenient size for on board photos, shots of the glaciers and scenery from the ship, and even in town pictures. I doubt you will find enough occasions to use the 11 - 16mm to be worth lugging it around with you.

Rent a 150-600 from borrowlenes.com at $70 a week.

Nice thing about a cruise, you have a room that moves with you. Take all three and decide what you need for any given day. Given the trip, I would be wondering more about what lens I might want to add to the collection.

Lourdes, I just came back from a week in Denali and a week cruising. Wonderful trip! I carried my 18 - 55mm and my 55 - 200 with my D5200. I used them in about equal parts. I wish I had a longer lens that went out to 300 or 400 - animals in the park and whales on the cruise are usually a long way off. What you have should be fine. I brought along a tripod. There's usually no time to set things up while on tours. It stayed in my room most of the time. Enjoy!

Hi,

In 2000, I traveled to Alaska with a f/1.4 50mm, f/2.8 24 - 70mm, F/2.8 70- 200mm, extender 2x and Canon 20d. Had everything I needed. Not sorry I "lugged" it. Everything & accessories fit into a Tamron Expedition 5 backpack. Take lots of cards or a storage device.

Have a great trip!
Mark :)

I agree -- That is the way you set up your lens range.

I would take my 24-70mm 2.8, 70-200mm f 2.8, a walk around 18-300mm, a 300mm 2.8 for those eagles, a 200-400mm for those shots when you don't know the distance to the wildlife, or course a 600mm f4 for the eagles, a 10-20mm for those interior shots, don't forget the 60mm and 105 mm micro's for close ups of flowers, the new 20 mm 1.8 for those dimly lit interiors, the new 400mm f2.8 for the eagles, the 80-400 mm walk around for wildlife, and my favorite, the 800mm for those eagle shots. And by all means take large pelican cases so that you can take all this with you lest you miss a shot. Heaven forbid. Good luck and happy shooting. The tip is a once in a life time.

I agree with those that say take all three. The 11-16 2.8 is fast enough and wide enough for taking shots inside the ship. Definitely take the longest lens you have because there is always something to see that is too far away for the 35MM. I was on an Alaska cruise 2 years ago and wish I had the 11-16.

I am in the all three camp. On our recent cruise my bag was a bit heavy, but I knew I might not get back to these locations again so I wanted all my tools available.
