The Missouri Botanical Garden, founded by Henry Shaw in 1859 is a photographer's paradise for all seasons, but especially summer.

I have a couple of weeks off and want to photograph some really pretty scenic views. I have lived in MO since 1992 and haven't come across any place I would want to spend a couple of days just photographing nature. Any great spots out there?

If you are into "Americana" as I am, there are many, many beautiful little "hick" towns all over MO. I don't use hick as a derogatory term. In most of these towns (villages) the people are overly friendly and full of information and interesting stories. All you have to do is get of mail highways. My biggest problem is that I get so into the people and their stories that sometimes I forget to use the camera!

I have lived in Missouri all my life, mostly within 100mile radius of St.Louis, been into photography since 1955 and have always been able to find something interesting to photograph. While the Grand Vistas of the west aren't available there are all kinds of scenes, Maybe your eyes are too busy looking for grandeur to see the beauty in simplicity.
Try Elephant Rock state park, Johnsons Shut-ins ( in the same area}, Lon Sanders Canyon, Castor River shut-ins it goes on and on.

Get on state highway 63 south of Jefferson City and wander south. Plenty of side roads to explore. Ozark streams: Jack's Fork, Eleven Point. Like little old German villages? Vienna, Herman, Westphalia, Dutzow. Caverns? Onandaga Caverns off of I-44 near Rolla. Onyx Mountain.
Unless you enjoy traffic jams and way too many people, avoid Branson, Lake of the Ozarks, I-70 corridor and lack-luster Merramec Caverns.

You could always go around the state to all the old grist mills. Look up Alley mill and Hodgeson mill to name a couple.

Lots of great suggestions here. I would add Big Springs "the biggest in the world" and the Black and Current River areas, especially if you like to canoe.

What part of Missouri do you live in?

If you want nature and outdoors head to the Ozarks where I grew up. Montaulk State Park, Current River, Round Springs, Blue Springs, National Forrest, Elephant Rock, and Meramack Park and Springs.

Or head to St.Louis- Forrest Park, the Jewel Box, Missouri Botanical Garden (Shaw's Garden), Soulard Market and surrounding area, tons of architecture, Washington University ( host of the 1904 Summer Olympics), Belfontaine (not sure of spelling) cemetery, and much ,much more.

PM me if you have any specific questions.

Thinking back on it, you have been in Missouri 23 years and you haven't found any spot worthy of a couple of days. I do not in Missouri, but I have availed myself of the nature areas of Missouri and some in Northern Arkansas. Just drive 65 south out of Sedalia. Or 44 from Joplin to St Louis. Hunt out old Route 66 among the off roads. Maybe you should just wake up to what is around you.

One last comment, go to Altenburg and take in both the restored buildings and the side trip down to the river where some old buildings are still standing by the railroad tracks.
