Seems to me that you should be comparing LR to Corel Aftershot Pro, rather that PSP. PSP is an Adobe Elements competitor, while Aftershot Pro is a Lightroom competitor.

Lightroom "IS" worth it. Simply put, the Organizer in LR is the best and worth every penny just to keep you images organized and easy to find. The Develop mode is arguably the best too. But I'll leave that alone for further discussion here.

I'm wondering if any of you guys have used both Corel Paint Shop Pro Ultimate and Adobe Lightroom. I was in a local computer shop and one of the techs recommended Corel Paint Shop over Adobe Lightroom. I had Lightroom 6 on my laptop before it crashed and I can't get it back because it was given by a friend and I don't have a key for a new install. Now I'm trying to decide if Lightroom is worth the difference in price over Corel Paintshop. The computer tech say's that it definitely isn't. I always come here before I make any significant photography decisions and I always get great advice. I would be grateful for any advice regarding these photo editing programs. I also have Nikon View NX2 on my desktop but I don't know how it compares to either of these two programs because I'm just getting into post processing and editing and I don't know much about these programs yet.

Go with PaintShop Pro. You won't be sorry and you'll save a lot of money.

Corel products don't get the credit they deserve. I've used WordPerfect for years and prefer it over Word. It's more user friendly. People I know who used WordPerfect in the past, and had to switch because of their workplace, etc., prefer WordPerfect. They hate Word.

I haven't used Photoshop because I can't afford it. Give me Corel products any day.

Corel do have software comparable to Lightroom but PaintShop Pro is not it!
If you are looking for similar software to Lightroom Take a look at Corel AfterShot Pro 2. It was formerly Bibble before Corel acquired it. I have used it but I use Lightroom 5. Since Adobe seems to be going the subscription route, I will be returning to Corel software. The only reason I went to Lightroom was to become acquainted with it when it was available at a reasonable price ($85) it is not worth the usual retail price.
If I was deciding on software again I would pair Aftershot Pro and Paintshop Pro both for economy and useability. The downside to Corel software is a lack of third party user help. If you are comfortable with learning on your own, and with photo editing in general, I would highly recommend both programs. One nice feature of AfterShot Pro is that it creates a new exif file with each edit so you can have a photo edited two different ways depending on the exif file you use.

Don't know anything about psp, but I'd be surprised if it competes with LR with its cloud based synching with phones and tablets plus all the cataloging and editing available on those mobile devices.
Seamless integration with PS-all for $10 a month...

Had PS CS2. I just got PSP a few months ago, a lot more friendly than photoshop. I'm probably biased, cause I also use Corel Draw for all my graphics. PSP will do more, than I'll ever master. I'm a printer, I do very little post processing, I print what the post processors send me.

I use both. I do most of my work in LR. If I need layer work I sometimes use PSP. However, I also have On1's Perfect Photo suite, which does layers also. Since using Perfect Photo Suite, I hardly even touch PSP anymore. Perfect Photo suite is well suited for LR. There is a very good interface between the two, and there is a TON of training out there for both. You're not going to find a lot of good training for PSP.

PaintShop Pro is an Digital Darkroom Editor, Corel also has a product called AfterShot Pro which is more akin to Lightroom.
They are frequently on sale from Corel's Web Site.
I have found that AfterShot Pro is faster than lightroom, and you don't have to restart the program when you change catalogs.
I believe AfterShot Pro is currently Version 2 and is 64 Bit.
PaintShop Pro's features place it between Adobe's Elements & Photoshop.
Paintshop Pro has a scripting language which allows you to create "actions" not only by recording key strokes, but by coding.

Haven't used Photoshop or Corel Draw, but do have it available as part of my WordPerfect software package. PSP is a great program and reasonably priced. It will do what the average photographer wants; and probably more.

I like Corel products. Have used WordPerfect for years. Don't like Word. I can do things much easier in WordPerfect than in Word. I work for an attorney and I'm gradually changing the documents from Word to WordPerfect.

I ordred Paint Shop Pro 7 ultimate from amazon. It hasn't arrived yet but I think I made a wise decision. I will post my opinion of Paint Shop Pro 7 after I've had the chance to play around with it.

Thanks to everyone for your input. This forum is as good as it gets and you guys are the best. I have decided to go with PSP because it seem like a much better value. Thanks again!

One last thought - you could do both - there are some things LR does better - cataloging, mass edits of photos, simple changes not requiring layers for example. When needed, you can open the LR-edited document from LR into PSP and use its additional features.

And don't forget the mobile versions.
