I also was thinking that eventually I will replace the Lightroom 6 program that I lost because of it's popularity and plentiful training venues but I don't want the CC version.I went with Corel Paintshop mainly because of it's extremely reasonable price and since I'm a beginning novice, Paintshop will allow me to do far more that I'm capable of doing now or in the near future. I'm really not big on PP anyway and at this point I only intend to use it for basic things like sharpening, lightening ect. Of course, once I get more familiar with Paintshop I might become a much bigger fan of PP. BTW, my Paintshop Pro X7 ultimate program arrive today but I haven't installed it yet. I hope I can find a good written tutorial for it or even a dvd tutorial.

One last thought - you could do both - there are some things LR does better - cataloging, mass edits of photos, simple changes not requiring layers for example. When needed, you can open the LR-edited document from LR into PSP and use its additional features.

My Corel Paint Shop Pro X7 Ultimate was delivered yesterday. I loaded it up on my desktop and my laptop. It comes with a 32 bit version and a 64 bit version. I installed the 64 bit on my desktop and the 32 bit on the laptop. This program appears to be just as comprehensive and powerful as Abobe Photoshop. I had to go to Corel's website to download the user's manual and it is 857 pages long. I printed half of it on my laser printer and the other half on my inkjet because of its color capability. Haven't done any kind of pp yet but it looks like it's capable of doing far more pp than I will probably ever need to do. It appears to have far more capability than the Adobe Light Room 6 program that I had. I intend to play with it tomorrow. I will post my first impression of it's ease of use. It's mind blowing that an editing program of this magnitude is so inexpensive. IMHO, Corel Paint Shop Pro X7 Ultimate is such an amazing bargain that it's almost unbelievable.

Thanks. What you say makes a lot of sense. I actually mentioned to the computer tech that there's a lot more info regarding Lightroom than what I've seen about Paintshop. I am going to go on youtube to see what's available for Painshop. BTW, this computer shop doesn't sell either of these programs. He looked it up on Amazon so that I could compare prices. Lightroom costs about 3 times as much as Paintshop so I would be quite happy to save that additional money if Paintshop is actually comparable. Thanks again.

I have both Lightroom and PSP X7, I rarely ever use Lightroom 5 and prefer PSP X7. Just remember, Lightroom does not have layer capability which PSP X7 does, I just find paintshop pro easier to use.

I think I will be very happy with Paintshop Pro X7. There is another thread where Paintshop Pro X7 is being compared to Photoshop. It seems that Paintshop is more on par with Photoshop and for the difference in cost IMHO Paintshop is a far wiser economical choice. I try to think in terms of value why I buy things. I do realize that some people place high priority on popularity and brand name recognition but functionality is another thing entirely. The other thread in main photography discussions has some interesting contrasting view points.

The only problem I have with Corel is that Adobe products like LR, Topaz, On1's Perfect Photo Suite, don't have any support for Corel. I.E. They don't play well together. Sure, you can access the Topaz plugins, but that's about it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a Corel Paint Shop Pro owner/user, but I wish Corel would do more development with Adobe and On1 to make them 'play more nicely' together. Also, there's by far more training out there for Adobe and One1 products than there is for Corel.
So, with On1's layering capability, I rarely use Paint Shop Pro anymore.
They have very good tutorials online. I use PSP 8 Ultimate and I like it. I find it more intuitive than Lightroom. I have both programs and I use PSP mostly.

Thanks. I have a feeling that I am going to end up with the Corel Paintshop Pro program. I just hope that I can find good instruction on how to use it. I'm a totally beginning novice with pp programs.

Well, it's a matter of how in-depth they are. I've seen their tutorials, but they only scratch the surface of 'how' to do certain things. Riberg does some in-depth training (
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCa6K_We332AI_1X9O37DyGg). But not near enough for me. This is where Corel can improve.
On-the-other-hand, LR has a lot of fantastic in-depth training as does Photo Shop and One1. I just wish that someone would start a series that would take you through every tool and every option and show you the "how-to" part for Corel (without charging you and arm-and-a-leg for that training).
What type of synching with mobile apps does PSP have?

Good question and good point! I have PSP X6 and I don't believe that there is any interface with mobile apps. Maybe PSP X7 does, and someone who has it might be able to answer that.

I downloaded and printed the 860 page Paintshop Pro X7 Ultimate owners manual/user's guide and dropped it off to be bound and covered at Staples. The manual is very comprehensive and thorough so along with Corel's online tutorials and what's available on youtube, I can't see any lack of usage information for Paintshop. It's also a strong probability that a lot more tutorial content will become available on youtube due to the affordability of Paintshop. Corel's PS PRO 7 ULTIMATE is an amazing value that's on par with Adobe's excessively expensive PHOTOSHOP.

Well, that's why I don't own Photo Shop (only LR). It IS over priced! But many PS champions will tell you that for $10/month, you can have both PS & LR. I'm tempted...but so far, I haven't found any reason to, because I can do what I want to do with the tools I already own.

I have always used Corel PaintShop Pro and am very satisfied with the results. Photoshop is just too expensive.

I printed up the user manual also, but I bought some Acco report covers and put my printout in one of those. They come 5 in a pack and have a 2-part fastener. Much cheaper than paying Staples or anyone else to do it for you. Since it's for my own use, don't see the sense in spending money for someone else to put it into a book.
