THERE ARE A WHOLE BUNCH ON EBAY
Be Careful with the black market!!
The 24-105L is my walk around lens. The IQ is terrific. I would buy one of the "kit" castoffs in a flash if I didn't already own one.
Consider eBay to be a zillion independent sellers, simply another market. I have only been slightly twinged (not a complete burn) once in 13 years, but I only buy from people with high ratings and nearly no negatives.
On lenses - A large percentage are authentic Canon Asian (usually Hong Kong) models at a discounted price. Those sellers will have a Chinese location listed on their ad. Unfortunately, you don't get US service and could be subject to an import duty depending upon the item purchased (usually not with small accessories). Break it and you send it back to China (good luck on that), if you dare. Fortunately, there are independent, reasonably priced, out-of-warranty repair facilities in the US so it is a balance between low price with, effectively, no warranty and higher price with excellent service. I go for the service.

Why are so many Canon lens for sale [24-105mm is] I was going to buy one but I don't know now
Because Canon recently released the 5DMarkIII camera and the kit lens is the 24-105mm. Since the kits are readily available and bodies only are not, 5DMarkII owners are buying the kit and selling off the lens because they don't need it. They already have the lens they need to use on the camera.

Many millions of satisfied eBay customers, and several hundred thousand people who bought stolen goods off the back of a van via Craigslist might disagree with you.
With Ebay / Paypal you have an absolute guarantee of 100% satisfaction. When you buy on Craigslist, very often you have a surveillance camera on you at best. Deal only with sellers with 99% or higher feedback and you're fine. I've been on eBay for 12 years and never ONCE had a bad experience.

I agree. I wouldn't let a Craig's list buyer in my house. It's bottom sucker territory. Many of my ads are answered by people with absolutely no interest in buying. Ads are not removed when the item is gone. Being free, it attracts the lowest class of honesty. Sob stories abound from people trying to get something for nothing in order make a living reselling it.
I never let any body from Craigs list in my house always meet some were at least with craigs list i can see what i am buying an test it
