I used to use iDVD and it was great until I upgraded to Yosemite. It seems they don't get along! I tried Voilabits Slideshowmaker. It seemed promising but for someone like me who is not a computer whiz there were just too many little bugs like, trying to add text, getting the songs in the soundtrack to stay where you put them. Some photos don't transfer over etc. I had to contact support several times, they finally got back to me but it's been more than a week and they have no answers so think twice before using this one. I appreciate your question though since I will be looking for a new program too!

Fotomagico is very robust. Easier to use than imovie for slideshows at least.
