I'm going to be back to Dayton for the first time in several years for my 25 yr college reunion. A very timely post and several great ideas I would not have thought of myself - thanks all!

Best aircraft museum ever and you could spend more than a day there. Puts the Smithsonian to shame. Bring a tripod.

Hello there I'm traveling to Dayton in August to visit some friends and of course I would like to take advantage of any photographic opportunities that may arise. Architect. nature, landscape, historic, landmarks!! Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks.

You absolutely MUST go to the Air Force Museum. It has many of the Air Force arsenal that did not make it into the Smisthonian for one reason or another and excellent examples of others that did. The main difference between the Air Force Museum and the Smithsonean is that the Smisthonean tries to cover ALL aviation and the Air Force Museum covers everything relaiting to the US Air Force and has much of the Wright Bros stuff that wasn't in the Smithonean or was replicas there. As an aviation buff, both are must see and must photograph museums. Also (and I realize that you are not headed this way, but I must mention it so as to offer a peace offering to those lesser "Flyboys"), is the museum in Penssacola. Fl for the Naval / Marine Corp attempts at flight. :)
Really just kidding the Naval and Marine guys.. the museum and area are also great and offen times you can see the Blue Angels praticing and many current Naval/Marine aircraft flying in and out of the base there.

Went to Pensacola last November and was really disappointed expecting something like Dayton. As far as the Smithsonian is concerned, I've been to the main location and the annex and felt there was too much political BS in some of the military exhibits.

I agree with the others, The Museum of the Air Force at Wright-Pat is a must! Cox Arboretum is another. how long are you staying? A day trip to Yellow Springs is a short drive, and very photogenic.

Eastwood Lake has a family of Bald Eagles. 2 nesting pairs near the lake. They and the young ones may be seen fishing the lake at times.

Lived there all my life. Shoot the Stewart St. bridge toward the city--amazing shot. Arches of bridge in lower half and the skyline in the upper.
Go at the Golden hour. Nearby, you can see it from the bridge the Carrillon--the huge bell tower at the park on Patterson Blvd.
Close by Hawthorne Hill, The huge estate of the Wright Bros. in Oakwood.
Air Force museum will keep you there all day--most outstanding in the US !!! Get a shot of the World headquarters of NCR---now owned by the University of Dayton. I wish I were there to drive you around !!!!!!

Lived in Dayton years ago. The USAF museum is wonderful and it really is a day, a long day. I don't remember the name but it with the National Park Service high on a hill over looking Wright-Patterson AFB with the history of the Wright Bros.
If you are into history I would add the Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument in Xenia, OH a very short drive from Dayton.
Most of all enjoy and have a great time. Eat at Momma in Kettering the best Italian food I have ever eaten.

A short drive from Dayton, but Yellow Springs and Clifton have many photographic areas. (Old grist mill and a couple of beautiful nature walks)

Hello, have a nice visit. I lived and worked there for seven years, of course lots of changes now. If you have the time check out these two buildings for the beauty and architectural designs. The masonic lodge and art institute. Enjoy!

That would be Momma Disalvo's, the Disalvo family's eatery, Stroop Rd. near Marshall Rd. The hill you mention overlooks Huffman's Prairie where the Wrights did the flying that sold the government on the usefulness of the aeroplane. The monument is the Wright Brother's Monument and is still a celebrated location for certain affairs. Nice view of history.

A day? I spent 7 hours there last December and only got through the newest hangar.
