Going to Iceland. Anybody have suggestions for a good walkaround lens to use with both ff and aps (canon mount) to use for birds and landscape? under $700?
There is only one, maybe to truly multi-purpose high quality lens fro such a trip Canon 24-105, or maybe the 70-200 F4. Take a 1.4 or 2.o doubler and the 24-105 does it all.

D, unless you are talking about some specific 3rd party offering, the 24-105 will not take a Canon extender? ;-)

Have you considered any far more expensive lenses and just renting it for the trip?

Tough request. Two camera sensor sizes. Bring one camera preferably the FF, and get a good lens for it. If you are nervous about camera failure, then bring the second cropped sensor. But you will be far happier with the results from the FF, as long as you get a good lens - the Canon 24-105 sounds about right.
I just purchased the Sigma 18-300mm. It seems to be a good lens and within your budget.

I bought the Tamron 70-300 mm about 18 months ago and have been very happy with it on my Canon D60. Be aware though that that toward the long end the largest f-stop is 5.6. It does go down to f4.0 at the lower zoom end. As long as you are going in the summer, I wouldn't think outdoor lighting would be a problem.
Indoor light at night may be--When I was in the Army 50 years back, and we sent troops to Iceland, many of them resorted to painting the windows black; they couldn't get a good sleep with the "midnight sun".
I use my Tameron 16-300 for trips. It is light, weather sealed and works well with mt 7Dmkii. The one that work with your FF and crop is the tameron 28-300. I have an older one of that make too. Very nice lens for a "walk around".

Willie

Try any third party teleconverter before buying if you are putting it on the Canon 24-105mm f/4L. On my Kenko, Tamron, and Vivitar TCs, the 24-105mm lens does not communicate properly at focal lengths of 35mm or below as marked on the lens. This has been my experience on my Canon 5D MK III, 7D, and 7D MK II.

Yep!
Any 24 to 105mm Is a good choice for a "Walk-Around" lens... I use this lens most of the time for most any shot.
My son and I both use a Sigma 18 - 250 lens and can't say enough good things about it. IQ is great. I would look in to this. Price is good also.
Believe they have an 18-300 lens out now also.
APC only. The OP wanted a lens which would work with both FF and APC.
