I am very happy with FineArtAmerica.com. It's easy to set up and maintain , handles all your sales, and costs $30 per year.

Just an informational/display site, or E-commerce?

Still haven't stated the intentions of the proposed web-site. No problems with whatever you want to do, but it would make things easier for someone to advise you. Different site architecture, depending on if one just wants to show some pics, or is wanting to sell prints, or just digital?

Zenfolio looks good too, looks like $30 a year isn't bad. Fine Art America does the same for free: display, print/canvas printing, send to customer, you get check in the mail. Maybe less photos shown. My choice though was GoDaddy.com for a full website of all my art with my domain name, there are some fees: georgeedwardsart.com I put it together myself with template help onsite. You get to use PayPal to handle your payments, just pop in a button link. PayPal has no fees unless you make a sale, then it is like 2.5 %.

They host your images, and allow you to let viewers order prints from labs. Much more, as well. Check out their tour video.

Many pros and amateurs alike have used this service.

So sorry, I thought that I did reply.
I would like to start with posting and move into selling in 4-6 months, without reinventing the wheel...

I do architecture and landscapes. I may try it.

Thank you! The learning curve is a little steep and since I don't update the site very often (too busy!!) I forget how to use it! But it really is a nice presentation.

If you do try it/use it, be sure to use the code D62-2K6-RVV so that you get a discount and I do too.

When you're checking them out, double check the ability (and ease) of "stealing" images. If you can right-click an image and download it without doing anything else, you might not want to use that website.

You can't right click to steal on Zenfolio. That is one of the reasons I like it.

My suggestions would depend on your decision to just post photos to a sharing site, or have your own. There are several names that pop up when questions such as yours are posted. Zenfolio and Flickr are two of the most popular.

However, these are not something I would care to use as a primary site as they are not identified as mine. I'd recommend a real hosting site. In addition to my site, which has been hosted at Interwrx for years, I've also got two other hosting servers through Ipower. Ipower offers a pretty good price and reliable servers, but any hosting service is going to require that you know something about writing html, a the minimum, and how these servers work.

Yes, they have technical support, but that is geared more towards server issues than your personal code. I hope some of this helps.

If you have your own domain name, you can use that with Zenfolio, no branding either, such as mine http://www/WendyPickardPhotography.com

Regarding another post about html knowledge, not necessary on Zenfolio.

Also, being found on Yahoo and other search engines is a naturally occurring process. In time your site will be found and depending on how much competition you have, you may be on the first page of search engines without doing much other than buying a domain name and developing a website with that domain name.

I am found on the first pages of search engines if you search for real estate photography for any of the cities I work in, such as Thousand Oak, Moorpark (in California) and many other cities.

You might like to check out Slicpic.
Like you I was looking for somewhere that didn't require too much, if any, programming knowledge.
I started out with Free hosting on SlicPic but now pay about $50 a year to get some extra features (disable right click security, my own website address etc).
It also has a blog feature I haven't used yet.
Presentation probably isn't as flash as some I've seen but i only use it to display pics for friends and family.
Having said that, in about 9 months I've had over 14000 page views (not sure what that means), a lot of 'likes' from people I've never heard of and three offers to buy copies. (I don't sell pics but I gave them a free hi res JPEG by email).
Cheers

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can have a Website created for my photo and art images that is both affordable and functional?
(IE: Having leads in many places on the Internet, easy to add or change images/information, creative, etc..)
I am a college student with no income at the moment, so my funds to have the site created, (and more importantly, to maintain,) are limited.
Thanks..

Fineartamerica.com may be a good start for you. It's free, you can sell prints from it and it's very simp0le to use. I still use it, but I moved up to Zenfolio, which is a lot more complicated to use and costs $140.00 per year for a professional sales oriented site.

Another SmugMug fan here, but not a fan of the name. Seems amateurish.

Search Wordpress on youtube and view a few tutorials by Tyler Moore. He has several that are well produced and lengthy. I think you will be impressed.

You can lock down the photos on smugmug as well, I just prefer not to.
