After looking at above shots, must opine that your kit lens is performing well. Nicely done.

Ron,

After posting that shot of the Great Horned Owl, I decided to see if I could find some decent shots with the 16-50 zoom. I have just returned from a month up in Washington and Oregon and I went through the pictures I took during the trip to find ones I had taken with the "kit" lens. Here is one I took of the remains of a ship wreck on a beach just down the coast from Astoria, OR. It was shot handheld at f8, ISO 320, and 1/1000 and the lens was at the 39mm position as far as zoom. I may have to rethink my opinion on the 16-50 as this looks pretty sharp to me. I cropped it to let you get a closer look at the detail.

These look great.

I reset the camera and upgraded the firmware from 1.0 to 1.2 and that seems to have helped. Or, maybe I'm beginning to see that I can't treat it like a P&S (on full auto I should be able to though I'd think). In the last couple of days I've shot over 300 pics, mostly trying to get BIF. Haven't had a decent day yet since the rains have turned into monsoon around here at times so I don't know how it'll work in good light. But, I did get some better shots yesterday. Certainly nothing worth sharing but every now and then I see some potential. My problem may all be me. I hope so.

Keep at it Ron. It is a great bit of equipment with a learning curve.

I bought the A6000 ... getting really disenchanted ...love the little camera ...was expecting a ton better photos with this A6000. It's just not happening yet. I'm blaming some (lots?) of it on me......frustrated, disillusioned, and losing my taste... got it at B&H and I'm still within the 30 day period...

So, just an update on my particular setup. I did receive an RMA from B&H to return the camera and lenses. BUT, at the last moment I decided it wasn't the equipment but was me, so I did not return anything. Really appreciated B&H's policy and attitude though.

I've quit trying BIF at the moment. That automatically gave me a much higher percentage of decent shots. And, I think I'm beginning to learn this little camera. I love it! I have since added a couple of lenses I got off eBay ($20 for a Sears/Pentax 135mm Macro in mint condition plus another $9 for adapter, and a 50mm Pentax prime for $26 and I got a second adapter to keep the changes down). Also have a Sigma 70-300 APO lens coming ($75), along with a LA-EA2 Sony adapter ($161). I'm looking forward to having some fun shooting little critters in Colorado in the next few weeks.

Here's a few pics to update. In looking through my stuff so far I see that I need to learn what this little camera needs in the way of proper exposure. I get a lot of shots that are over exposed. I'll learn.

I'm glad you kept your a6000. It looks like you are getting some great shots with it. Don't you just love eBay for great lens bargins? I posted a photo taken with a 400mm lens from eBay under this topic - tack sharp lens for $20.

My "main" camera is a Nikon d810, but i find myself and my wife picking up the a6000 more and more. I know people don't like the the kit lens 16-50, but i love the size and range it gives. My D810 is the best camera I have ever owned, but i now use the a6000 more for travel and street photo. I have the 50mm 1.8 lens, super sharp, but big. I have the 55-210, great lens for the price. I've spent less then $2000 for this setup and use it more they my D810 and $15,000 in lens investment. The a6000 small, fun and produces great pictures, maybe not the photographs that the D810 produces, but great for captureing memories of a vacation or day trips. The best camera is the one you have with you.

Glad you are getting better images now. I have the A6000 and just love it. I bought a used 18-200 sel18200 and it is performing very well. And I have a manual focus Minolta MC Mount 50mm f1.4 Rokkor that is such a great lens. Also have the Sony 35mm F1.8 and it works great. And I find the lens stabilization with this camera seems better than the body stabilization in my Sony Alpha bodies.

Agree with everything you say. The a6000 is a helluva camera, especially for the price. I just bought the Sony/Zeiss 16-70mm lens, and this combo rocks!! For my amateur needs, this is pretty much all I want (although the lens did break my budget)!

The Friedman book is terrific. If you buy the b/w print version, the color e version is complimentary!

Ron, based upon what you state, it seems that you must have a defective 16-50 lens.

What is the best lens adapter to use with the A6000 and with both Canon EF and EF-S Lenses? And where can you buy them?
