How long does an ad run?

I have used Craigslist many times, and have not had a problem.

(1) Always meet in a public parking lot where there are lots people. Like a Walgreens or CVS parking lot.

(2). Cash only, on delivery.

(3) the ad can be turned off at any time for any reason you choose. When you post the ad, they will send you an email which explains how to do this.

(4). Include several good photos, and an accurate, detailed description.

Good luck.

David

Some people just trust folks. I found an ad that had 20 cigar boxes for $8. My wife thought they would be good for crafts. Used the lists email and told her I would like them. She sent me her address and said to pick them up anytime. When I got there she had 10 or 11 items on her porch with a note on each one to take the provided envelope and pt the money in a slot in a box. I did see her and she said she had been selling things that way for three years and never had a problem. Only in Nebraska. - Dave

Not in New Jersey...... Bought a bunch of candy for Halloween. Put it in the bucket on the front step with a note. Please take one or two pieces if you'd like, but please save some for others. Thank you Happy Halloween. I'm walking down the sidewalk from my neighbors and see a woman taking two handfuls and putting them in a bag with her child. I said excuse me but could you just take one or two please so that there's enough for others. She said oh but I have three kids home that couldn't come out today. Go figure.

Ad, not add. Advertisements, advertising only has one "d."

Hi

I am out of town today & tomorrow morning, but could meet with you tomorrow afternoon or Monday anytime,.i belive meeting with you to see it before discussing on price wont be a problem,, what price do you have in mind to sell it last? email me at cordioaz921@yahoo.com,. Also if you want me to call you , leave me your number and let me know when would be a good time to call you.

Have a blessed evening.

The one I got the day before said he was in Florence, and his father was having heart surgery "this sec." All of them have mentioned discussing the price - which I listed with the item. I told the first person that I would meet him in town at the Nissan dealer - never heard back.

Any idea why people would do this?

Craigslist can tend to be like FACEBOOK. And you know how those people are. I use CL to get rid of stuff I do not want and do not want to throw out. When you give it away they stampede to your door. Like I helped my neighbor get rid of a gym set. I got 15 replies after 5 minutes. She just wanted it GONE. great place to remove garbage. And you don't even have to pick it up. LOL

They are fishing for replies..... If you reply to those ads. They get your email address from the reply and you'll start receiving spam mail. I sell a lot on craigslist and never replied to them. I also have a separate email address made up for anything I sell online.

This is the best reply when dealing with craigslist! I have obtained most of my digital photogear over the past 8 years from craigslist, and have gotten some very good buys . I will only deal locally and can usually read a seller pretty well after a phone conversation or email answers to my questions. If a deal seems too good to be true, it usually is.

There are many, many people doing this. They want you to reply so they can get and sell your email address or phone number if you send it. They never say the item your selling because it is a scripted, saved post of theirs that they send to everyone they can. They show an email address they want you to reply to outside of craigslist. If they send you a phone number when you call you usually only get a recording or if they mistakenly answer they feed you a bs response. Some say they are buying for a relative in another country or state and will send you a cashiers check for more to cover your shipping but this is just to have you give your name and address. If the are really good and you are "easy" they get your email address, phone number, name and address.

Jerry, I have had a few transactions on Craigs list, all of them with me selling something. All have gone smoothly but before I got to the final buyer I had to weed through a few loan proposals (apparently when you list something for sale it is taken as an invitation for others to loan you money as you must need it or would not be selling), people who said they would come to my house on this day and time but never showed up and never called to let me know. All have been safe and either at my house or I have driven to a local laundromat to meet someone in the middle of the day. I have had good luck selling bricks, a window frame, yard furniture and a tire.

Good luck,

Dennis

I've been using Craigs List for about a decade. Selling camera equipment, my position is I can't buy any new equipment until I sell some old equipment. Anyway, I never answer anyone who wants my email address or phone number. They want you to text them so that they can get your phone number.

I always meet at a Starbucks or McDonalds. I have never had a problem. (yet).

You can tell when someone is serious and who isn't. Good luck. Also, only deal in cash!

I've sold and purchased numerous items on Craiglist, with no problems. I once purchased a Sigma telephoto lens. There are many scammers out there, it is definitely buyer beware. I had one interaction with a scammer when I saw a car for sale with a price that was too good to be true. It was, and I dropped that conversation quickly. Use lettes and numbers in your ph# (fivefive5-two355) so computers can't decipher your number. also list a request that no solicitations or spammers allowed.

Beware, beware!!! Offshore scammers are out there wanting to "buy" your stuff, then send you a counterfeit check for more than the price (in order to cover shipping the item) and "trust" you to send them your check for the amount of overage. I know of at least two cases, including mine, that could have worked but did not. Big ticket items are especially targeted. They are slick, do not use USMAIL for sending their payment. That's mail fraud. They use FEDEX instead. BEWARE!!

Smart to meet at a public place. I never mess with Craigslist. I have heard too many negatives.
