Had the same problem you have. Bad cervical spine from 25 yrs of trucking. Pinched nerve affecting my left arm and hand. A sling strap definitely made things easier for me. I use a Black Rapid. It handles my 7DII and 100-400mm with no problem. There are a number of good types. Find one you like and give it a try. They are not a real expensive item.
BTW, last week I had surgery for the problem. I had C4 thru C7 vertebra fused and nerve passages cleaned out, etc. All I can say is, if surgery is an option for you, then do it. Wish I had done it sooner. These things don't fix themselves and it is amazing what a good surgeon can do.

I've had disk replacement surgery and can't use neck straps either, so I use BlackRapid too.

Since purchasing 5D MK3 in addition to my 6D, I have been looking for a system that will allow me to carry both cameras. The OpTech system looks like a winner that is affordable and well thought out. All the various parts are integrated. Making it in the USA just is the icing on the cake. B&H prices on these look great. Guess I will be trying one of double harness setups.

The is no law that says you must wear your camera around your neck. Have you ever seen a painter walking around with a quiver of brushes around their neck? Do people walk around with brief cases hung around their necks? Why a camera? How can you protect a camera that is hung from your neck? Are camera straps native to Hawaii? The neck strap is just a commercial for the manufacturer. A sling would be effective for carrying large lenses but not so much with normal, smaller ones. Wrist straps allow the user to keep the camera in a secure position and maneuver with it out of harm's way. But, to carry a camera around one's neck is asking for problems. Why do it? You are aggravating your neck and risking your equipment. Why?

I have a similar problem with my neck from an old injury.

Recently ordered the Capture system from Peak Designs. It allows one to clamp the Capture device on your belt, or a vertical strap such as a sling, or back pack strap. It uses an Arca/Swiss compatible plate attached to the camera for this. The entire system works together in a way that I have not seen from other manufacturers - and I had some doubts...but I really like it.The "feel" of the weight on my waist is probably 1/2 of what any neck/shoulder strap I have used - I bought a quick release belt that has my Capture device on it as well as my long lens case. This system is thought out from from the shooter's perspective in a way that makes it easily expandable.
Hope this helps!

If you get neck pain, it would seem to me that anything that goes over your shoulder or around your neck will give you pain.

Maybe a harness like something used for binoculars for birding would be better.

I have owned the Op-Tech shoulder harness, the Cotton Carrier ( which - for me was hot and bulky), and various cross-body straps. All of them induce some pressure on the neck.
That is why I went with a waist carry option. Will never go back to anything on my neck or shoulders now that I have found this Capture device.

Hello Friends,
I have a pinched nerve in my neck and after a photo shoot I have the pain down my right arm for a while. I use one camera about 5 lbs with the zoom and the back up camera a few pounds. My question is what would be recommended for caring these with ease and supporting the cameras not pulling down on the neck. I have read the past post about the sling but not sure if that would help. Thanks in advance.
I have the same thing from an accident many years age.

I use a Black Rapid which is good most of the time but I also have the Spider Pro belt which is perfect for your situation; all the weight is on your hips and it'e easy to get at the camera. There's also a pouch for an extra lens if you need it.

I like the Spider Pro...but it allows the camera to swing a bit too much for comfort - and safety of my gear I thought...

Goes over both shoulders, like a vest, distributing weight equally. But, yes, to answer your question it does go over your shoulders.

I did just look at the Spider Pro Holster and it looks really great.

You should ALWAYS hold your camera, regardless of the suspension method. That's the only way to safely carry a camera... ;)
