Thanks.

The pictures with just the one camera are not sharp. We even did a side by side comparison taking the same photo. I was told that the fix is an adjustment of the mirrors. What that means, I can't tell you.

Earlier this week I asked about opinions about the 50 and 60. If I have to I will get a refurbished 50d over the 60d canon
IMHO
60D is NOT an upgrade of any magnitude to the 50D (and in some respects - is a downgrade), however the 7D IS an upgrade .
If you have the $$$ - investigate the 7D. Otherwise the 50D is your best bet.

It sounds as if the camera was no longer under warranty, but they agreed to fix it as if it was. The warranty period (one year) is designed to give the user sufficient time to discover a defect. Every mechanical device ever made will have a tiny percentage of defects in manufacture of every part of it over the total run of millions produced. If it "never seemed as sharp" compared to the others then it should have been returned within the warranty period so they could address the problem. It is not Canon's responsibility to extend the warranty period to cover instances where the problem was clearly known but the owner neglected to complain until the warranty had expired.

The very small charge of shipping back a camera in exchange for free out-of-warranty service was very gracious (You always are responsible for shipment to the warranty station.). I would have jumped at the opportunity to have my out-of-warranty camera fixed for only a shipping charge and thanked them profusely in a personal letter.

I recently sent my 60D to Canon to repair a hypersensitive flash mount and it was sent back to me within five days (they estimated a week) of their receipt of my package. I received two emails and two snail mail notifications of status (arrival and diagnosis/repair action). The camera arrived back fixed and totally cleaned. Total time: ten days, there and back. You cannot beat their service.

Are you sure this one has no focus issues? You are definitely not focused on the bird but just in front of it as I see it. Better check it out well. Make sure you are using just the center focus point for those in the tree shots.

The second 60D camera was purchased, after much research, about 4 months ago.

She never suspected that her expensive, Canon (!) camera would have a problem. She blamed herself. Finally she knew something was wrong with the camera when she started comparing the photos she took with her first 60D, and my Canon 60D, and them got on-line and started reading blogs.

I recently had my a Camera lens repaired and it took 2-3 weeks.

It sounds like you are quite a Canon fan. Believe me, I've owned a lot of Canon cameras and have always been a fan myself. But, in my humble opinion, you should NOT have to pay shipping for an item that has a manufacturers defect that they know about!

I am no more a fan of CANON than any other camera. I just happen to have a CANON system, it could have been a PENTAX, SONY or NIKON. Every camera has known issues that crop up on a small number of specimens after a zillion have been produced. The warranty period covers the discovery and repair of the unit. Even under warranty you are responsible for the cost of sending the unit to the manufacturer.

I have owned many cars. Because I have had a model that did not have a, for example, steering problem, I can't assume that any or all specimens of that model wouldn't have a problem that had not expressed itself before. The more examples you have of what is right should give your the experience to quickly recognize what is suspect. Sometimes it is less obvious, probably the situation here. That is probably why Canon agreed to fix it even out of warranty. They don't want unhappy users as happy photogs are their best promoters. Another $20 for return shipping to have out-of-warranty repair? A steal!!

Andrea, I am glad to hear that! I debated on whether or not to even bother to clarify this but I would not want to leave anyone with the wrong impression about Canon's warranty (just in case someone has a broken Canon out there.) The warranty is one year. This was not out of warranty work.

The reason my daughter has bought so many Canons is because that is what I've always bought. My co-workers, friends, and family, have also asked advice on what camera to buy, and the person I used to do weddings with bought the same camera I was using at the time. When my daughter goes on big shoots, people will surely say that they are in the market for a camera, and "how do you like yours?" As these blogs testify, we are always in the market for an upgrade. For a lousy $ 20.00 Canon lost a lot of good will and future sales. In my opinion, not a smart business move at all.

you may just have gotten a defective 60D... still, the 60D is, in some ways, a step backward, and the 50D is probably a better camera.

The 50D was a better camera is certain respects because of its magnesium build and some professional features like the joystick and MFA which was not included in the 60D. But in every other way the 60D was superior with a noticeably better sensor. However the 70D was a significant improvement over the 60D, and the current 80D brought that range to new heights being an overall terrific body with a number of pro features and one of Canon's best sensors.

In my experience requiring a customer to pay for return shipment for warranty repair is a standard condition. The manufacturer then pays shipping charges to return the repaired item. There may be some companies that pay for the shipping, I don't know, but the usual is as I stated.

What is Nikon's or Pentax's or Sony's policy. I would be surprised if they didn't have the same rule. I am sure that somewhere in the manual for your camera it will tell you that you are responsible for shipping charges to them for warranty repair.

I have had the Canon 60 D with the 18-135 is lens for more than 3 years. Absolutly NO focus problems at all.
Sometimes focus oroblems are NOT the fault of the camera body, but can actually be a problem with the lens. The better lenses tend to work better than the cheaper lenses. I never use the 18-55mm lens that comes with most camera packages.
I had upgraded from the Canon 20D and the 20D did a great job for me for many years, but the 8 megapixel camera just did not give me enough room for cropping. Also in addition to the 18 megapixels, the 60D has great video as well. I found that the focusing in video was very good and fast too.

You're doing better. This one's only been dead for 2 years. I'm not following you around, but you are posting in old threads that I participated in and I get notifications of new updates.
