Earlier this week I asked about opinions about the 50 and 60. I took the 60 d out to shoot Sandhills and ducks. It has huge focus issues. I tried 3 lenses and it had a problem with all 3. With my 50 d this was never a problem. If I have to I will get a refurbished 50d over the 60d canon

I got a refurb 50D from Canon Direct last year and it has been great. The camera arrived in it's original box as new and has performed flawlessly.
They had it for a great price but going through the CLP I got it for an even better price.
It was 500 and change delivered.
I think Canon is OOS in 50D bodies currently but keep checking.
i bought the 50d for 250 on craigslist ,it is my back up
camera,for my 7d

Swampy, what is CLP?
Overthemoon, what exactly was the problem?

you may just have gotten a defective 60D... still, the 60D is, in some ways, a step backward, and the 50D is probably a better camera.

Sort of the same, I use my old faithful, a 20D I bought as my first camera, and I still use it religously even though I have both a 7 and 5D sitting in their Armored cases, I get paraniod carrying around the 5d, i could never be as carefree as I am with my 20D although I don't exactly go banging it around or leaving it unattended, I just feel like I'm guarding an expensive necklace every time I take it out when 90% of the time the 20 does everything I need it to! shooting in manual or using it in one of the presets it does great! I haven't been impressed by newer releases

Seems very slow to focus I didn't have that issue with the 50d. I googled slow focus 60d and it seems to be a problem with some of these cameras

Thanks for the answer. Compared with my Digital Rebel, it is as fast but once there, it may take a moment to go back or forth one last time to make sure it is has it. While a little annoying, it is inconsequential.
In my case, the 60D had so many improvements over the Rebel that the decision was easy. And I never regretted it. Love the 60D. However, there may be fewer significant differences with the 50D. You would know that.

Oh sorry. That's the Canon Loyalty Program.
If you have an old broken P&S laying around, you can buy through the CLP program and they can give you $150 off the purchase of a new camera. You just send in your old to them.
I did happen to have one laying around in a drawer but if you don't I understand broken ones are available on ebay for cheap.
Oh BTW I have both a 30D and a 50D, and they each work great with fast AF for wildlife, but my 7D works even better.
I have a 60D - no problems. I am especially impressed with the ability to pull details out of the shadows ! I have looked hard at the 50D - the frame rate is slightly faster. Overall I think the larger MP and the signal processing of the 60D wins out- at the same or lesser price.
I've had a 60D for over a year with no focus problems, quick and effortless regardless of which lens I mount. However, if you are using the flex-screen, the Live View focus is always going to be slower.
If you have problems with cycling focus when using the eyepiece I would suggest having the camera examined by the dealer for a potential defect/problem rather than condemning the model. Bring the lenses with which you experienced the problem and demonstrate it to him. Compare it to another specimen.
Having the 50D and 60D and shoot both regularly, I have never had any issue what so ever with either, or any Canon body come to think of it. I think your issue is with the specimen you got hold of. If new send it back to Canon, SUPERB Customer service, great communication ( my 18-200 failed to focus) They had it back to me in under 5 days from the time they recieved it.
The body may have been dropped or has a component failure that is causing your problem.
I like both the 50 and 60D as much as I like my 1D mk2.
yea i had the 30d my first camera, nice camera did a great job
i may get a small point shoot for times when i cannot carry my 7d
like shows and out to dinner times
I went back to best buy they gave me another body and I went to Horicon marsh to try it out this 60d had no focus problems

Between my daughter and I we have owned 3 Canon 60D's. The pictures never seemed as sharp with one of the cameras. She found that some of the 60D's indeed have a defect with focus. This week she called Canon. She is using this camera to build a marketing business and does a lot of charity work. Canon is willing to fix the camera under warranty however they wanted to charge her for postage and it they said it will take 2-3 weeks to return her camera. This is a problem that they know they have! I've always owned Canons but this is the last one I'll buy.
