I think white box means it was part of a package and all they did was sell the camera. Ask about the warranty, but I would believe it would still be the 1 year from Canon.

Warranty sounds doubtful. The seller of this discounted lens is RnD Outlets. Their website says:

Are all these items used?

No, in fact most of this product is new but the boxes have been opened or the product was returned to a big box store. You know the two toasters you received as gifts? The one you took back probably wound up at our store! We open all products and check them over, price them for a lot less than anywhere else and sell them.

Is there any warranty?

Store policy is a 30 day return for store credit on items. Televisions come with a base 90 day parts and labor with extended warranties available that cover up to three years from the date of purchase.

The OP's stated that the seller indicated there were no warranty cards with the lens. Even white box should have a card. Makes me just a bit suspicious. B&H sells the lens for $999. $624 on Amazon makes me wonder if this a bit too good to be true, even for white box.

PS, you probably already know all this but maybe someone else following this can benefit.[/quote]

I found this beneficial. Do not know about warranties but never had a problem with getting Canon repairs in the past. But this has not occured for about 27 years now.

Tody's banner ad shows this primo 24-105 f4 L IS lens on sale for &624 and up through Amazon. What's the deal with Warranty??? One of their Q7A posts said there were no warranty cards, but they could register the lens with Canon. Where does this leave a buyer for warranty and repair over the life of hte lens.

This is right in my GAS sweet spot, but I'm concerned about the ability to get it services and the US CAnon Warranty coverage.

I will sell you mine for $600 (free shipping). Here is my ad in the classified section:

This lens was purchased new from B&H a little over 1 year ago. It has barely been used. Looks and operates like new. I have a 24-70 f2.8 that I bought from a friend for a great price so now I never use this lens, even though I do like the macro capability.

I will let it go for $600 with free shipping. Lens caps and original box included. I can send a PayPal invoice which can be paid with a credit card. You do not have to be a PayPal member. PM me if you need more info.

Thanks

Correct, and the box it arrives in probably won't be white.

Want to feel confident you're getting a USA warranty? Go to canonpricewatch.com and select the pricewatch tab. You'll see the lens for $620 including the warranty. I've bought a body and this very lens through this site and their vendors. They are definitely legit and credible. Good folks.

What's funny is that the banner ad below your question shows the canon 24-105l for $449.00

Surprisingly, there is a similar site for Nikon.

For sure, Jerry. Both sites have been around for a few years and are an excellent resource. Good section on risks and benefits associated with grey markets buys, as well. Even though, the section is tricky to find. Thanks for searching it out.

Here is what I know but if you talked to Canon you may already have all your answers. There is almost more miss-info about this than whether to turn IS off on a tripod!!
A white box means it's a refurb and they are stamped with "refurb".
A kit only comes with a white box if it's a refurb kit only.
New kits(non-refurb kits), come in std. Canon new boxes.

SS,

I think you're wrong on this. I bought a new 6D that came with the 24 – 105 mm lens. The lens was in a white box but it was a new lens not refurbished. It had all the warranty cards and everything with it.

My guess is the original owner sent the cards in. He then decided he didn't like the lens and is now selling it. That's not a problem except for the fact that it is a used lens now.

If the OP writes to the seller and gets the serial number he may be able to find out if it has ever been registered with Canon. If it hasn't been registered that he could register it in his name.

I've also purchased new lens in white boxes. Usually means the lens was separated from the original retail box because the original buyer only wanted the body. The lens is/was then sold alone in a "white box." Perfectly legit and assuming an authorized Canon dealer, it can be registered for full USA warranty. White box doesn't necessarily mean refurbished or used. Here's an informative discussion from the canonpricewatch website:
http://www.canonpricewatch.com/blog/authorized-unauthorized-dealers-and-grey-market-explained/
You may have noticed in the writeup the paragraph about authorized dealers splitting up kits, which is discouraged by Canon. I don't know how this dovetails with the discussion. All I know is that I've purchased new white box lens and was assured by Canon customer service that it carried a full warranty.

White box means that it was part of a camera kit that was split and sold separately. It is not a returned or refurbished item.
As stated in the questions on Amazon’s site, “…the original warranty card inside the box.”
