I've been meaning to hike up the driveway to get some shots of the latest batch of foals. They're a couple of weeks old in some cases although the little chestnut appears younger. It's interesting that foals born early in the year come equipped with winter coats. I've noticed that summer foals are much less fuzzy.
I also took a couple of shots of some yearlings.
The owner raises these horses for racing. They'll go to auction when they're ready and hopefully become stakes winners at some point. They're all well bred. The owner said he originally paid $130,000 for the gray mare. Hopefully her babies have made the investment worth it.
I should also comment that the fence behind the old gray mare is not a good choice for horse fencing. It's too easy for them to get caught in it and cut up even when they have a large pasture to roam. There's always one that will find a way to get injured. In this case, they've put in some electric wiring to help keep the horses away, but that's not a guarantee.
