I just received this Canon Extender 1.4x III two days ago so I tried it out on some birds and bees and the images seem to be sharp. The focusing, using my Canon 7D Mk2/Canon 100-400 II lens with the new extender is still fast. All these shots equal 400mm x 1.6x x 1.4x = 896mm.

The Tamron 150-600 will be just as sharp at 600mm x 1.6x = 960mm and you will save about $1500 over the Canon lens and extender.

Canon 7D Mk2 - Canon 100-400mm II - 1.4x - 1/800 - f/14 - ISO @ 1000 - Distance was 25-30 feet.

Thank you, gawler. I was worried the new canon 1.4x extender would not be sharp enough, but it is sharp.

Great work Regis. How does your Canon 1.4x extender work with the Tamron 150-600 ? Can you post some images Please?

Washy,
The Canon 1.4x III extender doesn't work with the Tamron 150-600. The only extender that works (that I know of) is the Kenko 1.4 and maybe the Kenko 2.0. The auto focus is slow and it's not very sharp. So, the image is larger but soft. It's not for me since I like detail.
Thank you, Washy.

Excellent photos, Regis. Photo No. two is actually a fly - a bee mimic - but your photo is so good that one can actually see enough of the antenna to make that determination!
Once again, NICE JOB.

Thank you, Gym, for the information and kind comment.
I could not have photographed most of these Bees, etc. with a Macro lens because they were several feet high into the trees, so this Canon 100-400 II lens has this unique advantage over the macro lens.

Very impressive Regis.
What is the minimum focusing distance with this set-up? I see your last shot was at 2-3 feet.

Thank you, Vicki. I could have attained a better image with a macro lens, but most of the Bee shots were several feet high in the trees where I couldn't reach with a macro lens, so there are some advantages using the Canon 100-400 II with the Canon 1.4 III Extender. 400mm x 1.6 x 1.4 = 896mm. That's a good close-up (896mm) for a Bee shot or Hummingbird photo.
