Go to Barrow Lenses and try out (rent) the 18-270 lens from Tamron for Nikon. I have that lens and love it on my Canon 60D but I understand they have it for Nikon as well.

What is the opinion on the Nikon 24-70 2.8 fulfilling this role? I know it is expensive and possibly a little heavier than some might like, but surely one of Nikon's quality lenses.

It's a great lens.

The Nikon 24-70 2.8 is on one of my camera bodies at all time. The other camera has a 11-18 Sigma, a 70-200 2.8, or a 150-500 Sigma depending on what I plan to shoot.

The individual who said that it depends on what you typically shoot is absolutely right. If you never shoot at or near 300 then the correct choice will be much different then if you find yourself shooting at 300 mm frequently and wishing that you had more reach.

Looking for imput for a everyday lens. I bought the Nikon D-7100 at Costco. It comes with a 18-55 and 55-300 lens. I really like the lenses but I think I could do better.
What does the club members think?
Thank you in advance.
Best,
Jules

I recently purchased the Nikon 18-300mm 3.5 - 5.6 zoom (the more expensive one). It's totally awesome. People say it's heavy, but I don't notice it. I absolutely love the far reach it has. I doubt if it will ever leave my camera. I will probably sell the 18-55mm kit lens that came with the camera, because there is no need for it.

the 18-200 was a great lens . for the older 12 Meg pix cameras. but
you would be better served with a 18-300 mm as the d7100 is a what, a
24 or 27 mega pix . which would be a better match for it . and it will show
in the photos

That's what this site is all about. "What can I buy that might make my pictures better?" :D

There is the Nikon Trinity of lenses, with each costing about $2,000, but they're designed for FX bodies. Then there is the used market - ebay, photo dealers, KEH. You can also get good refurbished lenses from the Nikon site. I prefer large aperture, if available. I also prefer refurb and used.

Thank You Jerry, these websites/video will most definitely help me in deciding which lens to purchase as a "walk around lens" for my trip to Spain. I've been trying to narrow it down for quite sometime. TY so very much!!
