Looking for imput for a everyday lens. I bought the Nikon D-7100 at Costco. It comes with a 18-55 and 55-300 lens. I really like the lenses but I think I could do better.
What does the club members think?
Thank you in advance.
Best,
Jules

As a DX crop sensor camera, you may want to consider the 18-200 mm DX lens. One draw back is tendency for lens creep, but really great lens

My favorite walk around for the D7100 is the Sigma 17-50 2.8

They are ok, typical kit lenses. I have both on a D7100 and am also searching for something better that won't break the bank.

I was just looking at reviews for the Tamron and Sigma lenses that are either 16 or 18mm and go to 300mm. It would be difficult to justify spending the money for the exact same reach as we already have but if it were sharper that the Nikkor lenses, that alone would be worth it. Plus, there is the added advantage of not having to switch between to two.

If you would like to see what those lenses do on your camera, check out my Eastern Caribbean posts.

The 18-200 is a great walk around lens; but you also need the 35 1.8 DX for your 7100.

If your a birder or love to shoot @ reenactments and candid photography. A nikon 300 mm F4 ED prime will give you the reach and not break the bank @$375.00 to $600.00 on ebay .One of the sharpest nikons available. beats any nikkor 300mm under $1000.00 Zoom or otherwise.Uses a pin drive. available on a D7100 and up. Helicals are large not as fast to focus as 70-300 ED VR Zoom but sharpness on the 300 ed VR is not even close to the 300 prime .

Please explain.

   Yessireee! That's the one. Razor sharp, excellent color and contrast. Better than the 200 and 300 zooms for image quality.

The lens barrel because of it's weight will creep down when
the camera is facing downward. Some but not all lenses
have locks on them to keep the lens barrel in place.
