So, 'Doc Martin' should be 'Mister Martin' - since he's a surgeon? Wouldn't make a very catchy TV show title, though. . .

Surely having moved sideways to become a GP 'Doc' is correct?

Not necessarily unless he is a consultant then he can be Mr but a surgeon can also be a Dr. most confusing but if he is a Dr and you address him as Mr or vice versa they can get uppity. Confucius he say !!

Men desire titles as it implies importance.
I will give them their proper title but it means nothing to me.
