Battery technology has a long ways to go before electric vehicles will hit the mass market. Even the hybrids that supposedly recharge themselves. I'll pass for at least the next decade.

  I doubt if I will be around for that.

  Yup. But I guess they could always install some kinda amplified power system that could play sound from a CD or whatever.

Interesting point that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Various legislatures are already working on legislation to require some sort of sound system to warn pedestrians of approaching electric cars. Seems the incidence of pedestrians being hit at crosswalks and crossing streets where the lack of engine noise has been incidental to the accident.

I'm NOT lyin' on this one:

Very interesting, but the problem with electric cars is that there is no V8 exhaust note, whether it be a low rumble, or an ear piercing crackle. That's why we love V8s, right? :-) :-)

Aw yes Duke and the throaty roar coming back out of the carbs!

Here's what I'm thinking on the required noise legislation front. Example of the noise... How about this.

Remember when you used to use clothespins to attach playing cards to the fender struts of you bicycle, so they would be hit by the spokes of the wheel.

That's the noise. In fact, to keep costs down on this new equipment, put spoke wheels on electric cars, and a clip holder on the inside to flap against the spokes. Replacing the cards, or using stiffer cards for more powerful noise could be user DIY. A service policy could be purchased to stop in at the dealer once a week for replacement card installation. Higher powered sounding cards could be an upgrade to the service policy.

I've been thinking about this a lot. One could set up a small single purpose shop for card exchange.

Me neither BC. It was my birth day today so when I depart I'll be older than what covers me. By the way my initials are also bc but at times I feel like that really goes mean Before Christ.

My new Mustang GT isn't loud enough, so I will be ordering a new exhaust system soon. Love the sound of a V8. That is certainly impressive though.
