I think that you're right but only when a transaction occurs through eBay.
Other than that they charge the same interest rates.

Problem I have with PP is their statements. I can never figure out when they say 'Balance' if it's money the owe me for eBay sales or what I owe on my account.

I've never had any issues with PayPal. I frequently use them when selling things...most recently yesterday for a camera I sold on UHH.

They aren't a storefront or credit card company so they have nothing to do with issues between payers and payees. They just do the transaction.

I recently had occasion to use Walmart's cash sending service to buy a camera from an individual. It worked great also. Just like with PayPal I wouldn't expect Walmart to get involved if I had an issue with the seller. They just transfer the money for a fee.

A number of years ago an eBay seller who was paid through PayPal screwed me out of 50 bucks. Neither PayPal nor eBay would honor my complaint and remedy the siruation. Nor would PayPal honor my request to scrub me out of their system. So I swore off PayPal and very rarely even look at eBay.

It sounds like it was probably your fault. If it is then there's nothing they can do. If you overpay a vendor they can't request a vendor to refund, only the vendor can do that. Nothing PayPal could do.

You guys are just being silly about PayPal.

Does your bank intervene for you if you write someone a check and the seller doesn't deliver?

24% interest? Checked out a Citibank credit card's rate of interest lately?

I've been using PayPal for about 15 years without problem (for thousands of sales and purchase on eBay, among other things). I far prefer to use PayPal instead of providing my credit/debit card number online (or even over the phone). PayPal gives an extra layer of security.

Roberts Camera is good folks... sounds like they were having some website issues that needed fixin'. Glad you called them and got the order placed over the phone.

Jerry: I attended a seminar there yesterday. Its a good shop--big on Nikon. They have two stores; one in downtown Indianapolis, one on the far northside in Carmel.
They were touting Olympus yesterday @the Carmel store and again today at the down town store. Alyn

Victory! When software fails, rely on people. I spoke to Nick at Roberts Camera, and he took care of my order. I'll be receiving a Nikon D750 body on Tuesday. Along with the body comes an SDXC 64GB card and a Nikon battery, all for the price of the body.

And here I had my bet on a blowup doll.

I've never had a problem buying or selling on ebay, but there was a credit setup on ebay called BillMeLater, which charged about 24% interest. They offered six months interest free, provided you paid off the item. BillMeLater is now called PayPal Credit, which is very confusing, since there are really two PayPal functions. I don't want to get hooked up with anything that charges 24% interest.

I've use Bill Me Later/PayPal Credit 3 or 4 times. I take the amount owed, divide it by 6, make my payments on time, and have never paid a cent in interest. It's the only way to deal with them, but it works.

Enjoy that new D750 Jerry. Was this just a GAS attack?

I've bought many items from Roberts and used their trade in department with only the best experiences. I will deal with them again. Their customer service is great. I'm sorry you've had a problem.

I personally have been using Pay-Pal for years, I have never had a problem with them. They're easy to use. I'm sure that isn't just me.

Have any of you ordered from Roberts Camera lately? I've bought from them before, and I thought I'd buy again today. I buy everything online, so I know what I'm doing. After at least six attempts (Yes, I am persistent), I gave up. I couldn't avoid PayPal, I kept getting blank screens, the quantity of the order kept increasing, etc.

I'll take a break and order from someone else later - someone else who doesn't charge sales tax for NY.

I don't know why anyone would avoid PayPal. They are located in a city close to me and are a major employer and main provider for EBay. Their policies for fraud, returns, and safety are unsurpassed. If anyone has had problems with them, you did not know what you were doing. I would rather accept PayPal for my business than any other source. The only reason not to use them is that you do not earn frequent flier miles!

EBay will bend over backward to make a seller happy. I even had them refund money to one of my buyers, and later paid me for the item.

I have sold on EBay for years, they go to next extreams to protect a buyer, even when they know he is not truthful.

I have over 100,000 sales in EBay.

As for Roberts, all stores have bad help, they just do not last. Roberts is a good store, glad they are in the Indy area,

I have bought several items from Roberts, most recently a 35 1.8g lens. Great service.

Also, I have had nothing but good service from PayPal. The one time there was an issue (I was the seller), I felt PayPal listened to both sides, asked the right questions, and eventually ruled in my favor. So, I strongly disagree that they always side with the buyer.

I as well have used PP Credit and like you paid for my purchases within the 6 months, and have never paid one red cent in interest. Six months ago I purchased a Tamron SP 70-200 f/2.8 USD DI VC and made my final payment last week. It is an outstanding option that I use occasionally.

What don't you like about PayPal? Not arguing with you, just interested in your reasons.

I must be the luckiest sod on the planet, according to some of you: I've used PayPal for well over ten years and have never had an issue - period.

I have read very few first-hand accounts of actual issues with PP; mostly second- and third-hand problems that get recounted around the internet with regularity...
