I have all of my equipment already listed in an Excel spreadsheet. It is then easy to create a new column for a specific trip and check off the equipment I am taking with me.
That is a good idea as you can keep track over time.

Since this will allow you to create statistics, do you use this in order to discard what you know you will not use considering your past records?

I use a roller bag when I travel and I carry a sling case. Both carry on. I can't seem to leave anything behind. Insurance wise, I have an APA policy with State Farm that is zero deductible and is good for loss, theft or damage anywhere in the world. In the event of theft, I need to provide a written police report of some kind. The insurance company has a list of equipment insured so I don't have to make an extra list. Have fun.

I am currently preparing for three months in EU so I am gathering what I will take, take a picture, divide the stuff between my luggage (accessories, cheap heavy stuff) and my carry-on backpack...

What method do you use if any?

(I did not mention the part of asking my wife to have some stuff in own luggage)...  :hunf:

Well, I pack a D800e + 2 primes and a 'zoom' as well as a gopro with accessories,,,

Add a 17" laptop and there goes my back... Car will carry most of the stuff that does not stay in the B&Bs.

You travel light, probably take many pictures. I travel heavier but do not take that many captures. Last time, in 6 weeks I took about 70. More than half where for stitched panoramas...

The gopro is a new addition as in some areas we will go to being unobtrusive is a must (in my opinion). The 'personal point of view' offered by a chest harness is hard to resist but that takes space too.

Which areas are you referring to? I know that I experienced a very unpleasant interaction in Berlin when I tried for a candid shot. Is the GoPro for video or for stills? If the latter, wouldn't an iPhone do just as well if not better for being unobtrusive?

France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and possibly Spain.

Gopro is for video person pov with a chest harness as to present public markets and the like.

No apple product under my name. I refuse to pay a premium for something I can do for much less, sorry.

I shopped for my first smart phone a few months ago. My main interest in getting a smart phone was to take candid shots inconspicuously, since everyone and his brother is out there staring at their phones. I tested the iPhone 6+ against the Samsung Note 4 and the Apple's pictures were better, so I overpaid ($900) and got the factory unlocked iPhone contract free. But for computers, I'd never go for Apple. They charge more for what one can do for less and I can get lifetime support without paying extra by getting my computer from places like Falcon Northwest and Digital Storm.

Sounds to me like you already know what you take with you. Why do you need a record of some sort when you already have it very well memorized? Personally, I don't take a bunch of equipment with me when traveling. Keep it stupid simple.

What a clever idea. Never thought of doing this. Will do this the next time I travel.

I always put a card with my name, address and phone number with email in camera bag just in case I lose camera bag and an honest person finds it. I also have a list of meds I am on (diabetic) in the bag also

I don't really have enough equipment where this is an issue. It does allow me the peace of mind to know what I have with me on a trip. I email myself a copy of the list just to make sure I have everything with me as I move from place to place.

Also, the list has the serial numbers so if anything ever did end up missing I would have the numbers to immediately turn over to the police.

Great suggestion. I've got engraved tags on my camera bags that have my name, address and phone numbers. Will ad a card inside with more info.
