Traveling and insurance

Before I travel I take a picture of the equipment I take with it so that if something happens I have an exact record of what is missing.
I am currently preparing for three months in EU so I am gathering what I will take, take a picture, divide the stuff between my luggage (accessories, cheap heavy stuff) and my carry-on backpack...
What method do you use if any?
(I did not mention the part of asking my wife to have some stuff in own luggage)... :shock: :mrgreen: :hunf: :lol: :lol: :lol:

We are going to Europe in a month.
My wife and I have learned how to travel with nothing more than what we can put in carry on luggage. Part of the formula is small cameras with larger sensors. She carries a Panasonic GM1 and I'm taking a Panasonic LX100. My backup is a Sony RX100.
The other major part of the formula is specialty clothing from places like LLBean and ExOfficio that pack small and wash out in the sink.

Well, I pack a D800e + 2 primes and a 'zoom' as well as a gopro with accessories,,,
Add a 17" laptop and there goes my back... Car will carry most of the stuff that does not stay in the B&Bs.
You travel light, probably take many pictures. I travel heavier but do not take that many captures. Last time, in 6 weeks I took about 70. More than half where for stitched panoramas...
The gopro is a new addition as in some areas we will go to being unobtrusive is a must (in my opinion). The 'personal point of view' offered by a chest harness is hard to resist but that takes space too.

When it was film, I backpacked with a Nikon and lenses, along with cooking and sleeping gear! When I rebooted my photography addiction beyond snapshots with a Canon Elph, I skipped DSLRs and bought the Sony RX100 for RAW with a larger sensor. I get plenty of quality with PP for anything on a screen and prints to 13x19 that are better than when I had a wet darkroom. I upped the anti with a GX7 for an even larger sensor and to accommodate a long telephoto. It's too heavy for carry on style travel, so, this year I got the LX100 and am thrilled with what it can do.
It seems to be bad form on UHH to admit any interest in video, but all my current gear is good at that too. This year's twist on my addiction is taking advantage of 4K video for its ability to provide 8MP frame captures JPEGs. So far, 8MP prints seem good at 13x19.
It blow my socks off that amazing photography and videography can come from such small and light cameras.

I spend a lot of time in Europe and have never bothered with insurance of any type. Never had a problem, never lost or had anything stolen or even damaged. Like Jerryc41, I hope for the best and don't worry about it.

You can list it on your homeowner's insurance. Then any losses won't be subject to deductible and may be covered at full replacement cost (sometimes an option). You'll be charged about 1% of listed (replacement) value.
To list it you'll need purchase evidence and serial numbers.

THIS allows for a visual of what I am taking with me. Proof of purchase, registration and the like is filed somewhere else. This way I know what is missing if anything, just glancing at it.
As to insurance options, sorry but that is part of a contract that you select/sign in advance so not an issue. The only issue here (and the question asked) is what do you do when you travel abroad with expensive equipment for a long period of time.
Making a list of every adapter and accessory is a pain in the butt in my opinion. A picture is worth a thousand lists, quicker and more accurate.

I have all of my equipment already listed in an Excel spreadsheet. It is then easy to create a new column for a specific trip and check off the equipment I am taking with me.
