These are excellent. The overcast, while providing less light, is still preferable to a sunny sky - their colors are wonderful and lighting is nice and soft. I often see these guys when I visit Gloria Ferrer - :)

I have found I get better detail when the light isn't so bright, either from clouds or shade of some sort. It took me awhile to see the difference since I always thought you needed plenty of light/dark contrast to make it work.

Gloria Ferrer isn't far from here. I'm reminded that I should make a drive up that way for some spring vineyard shots with the mustard blooming between the vines.

Here are a few more efforts, this time with some in flight (and in line). It's overcast, and there isn't enough light to bump up the shutter speed much more to stop wing action. The originals were really dark but lightened in pp.

I'm still looking for advice.

Your hummers are always great and of course you have different ones than we do east of the Mississippi. Our haven't even arrived here yet.

These are fantastic, Vicki! Number two here is just amazing. Don't think you need sun after all, lol. Very impressive work on these.

I'm always grateful for the time you take commenting on my images Randy. Thank you once again. I'm really glad you liked the second shot since I was trying to get something different.

Great shots Vicki, love the colors and action shots, very well done

Many thanks for the kind reply Greg.

Patience pays off with these birds. Just about the time I think I'm ready to give up and go shoot some flowers, I manage to get a shot or two that seems to have potential. I'm still deleting more than I keep, but it's worth it for one keeper.

great shots, detail on download to get close inspection of the bird, for me the slower shutter shows the motion that is important in the story of the composition. Green with envy and hope to come close to this quality some day

Doesn't look like you need advice. They are terrific. I especially liked number 2. Would really like to know what lens and settings you used.
