What is a quilt barn?
A quilt barn is a barn or other farm building that displays a quilt square. Often these barns are very old and have historical or landmark significance in the area. If you Google this subject, you will find there are many "trails". Although I have never gone specifically looking for these barns, I always try to capture them when possible. Plan to make a DVD show sometime.
Interesting. I can't say that I have noticed any around here.

We have made several trips along the Eastern Lake Mich shore, but don't recall any quilt barns. Keep looking, one may pop out sometime.
Elkhart county in Indiana have a lot of them on buildings. They also do the quilt flower gardens. I have a number of photos from there and plan to post at some time later. They are quite colorful.

I had to laugh today on my way home from work I decide to go the long way and get a picture of a wooden silo that is in pretty rough shape before it falls down. What should I pass but......
A Michigan quilt barn.
And if you are ever in Eastern Michigan again along the shore of Lake Huron here is a Quilt barn trail. My daughter lives about an hour and a half from here, I may just have to go investigate.

It is a very pretty farm. I will have to go back and get a better picture when the weather isn't so dreary.

Nice blue sky would be great, wondering if the green crop is winter wheat?

I think it probably is. I will have to go back next Friday if it is nice out.
I love quilt barns. We've made several trips following the quilt trails in various states. I'm a writer of Christian romance. My first book, Grow Old With Me, has a B&B with quilt themed rooms.
I'm currently working on a book about The Quilt Barn Painter. It's been great fun to meet many people who create the beautiful patterns they hang on barns. Attended and spoke at the Quilt Trail Convention in Ohio last year.
Check out my website for many quilt barn pics. If you see some favorites let me know. I'll try to post them here.

Very nice! I like #11, #18 and #20.
There are a lot from Ashland Kentucky to Lexington Kentucky and along the Double A highway to Cincinnati Ohio. Love the quilt barns. I'm looking for the "right" one for my barn. It isn't old, but they don't have to be old to put a quilt on them.

I think they are a very neat attraction for "any" barn. Keep looking.
In my town they auctioned off a slew of barn quilts last fall. These were displayed in the store fronts all summer.
They all were painted by locals and each had a story about it. Some went quite high (in the hundreds) and some went as low as $15.00. also I think they look more attractive when hung "kitty corner"
