Hi fellow Hogs,
My wife and I are going on a trip in April, that is going to take us up the coast highway. Years ago I lived in Santa Barbara but never took Hwy 1 . I am up for suggestions for places to visit and photograph between Solvang and Santa Cruz. Also any suggestions between San Francisco and Salt Lake. We will have around a week to make the trip, unless I can talk the misses into an extra day or ten (haha). Thanks ahead of time for your help!

The sunset at Window Rock, Julia Pfeiffer state park. Probably not a real bad time of year, window-wise.
I'll post a shot later tonite. ;-)

Between San Francisco and Salt Lake I would suggest Yosemite, Death Valley, Snow Canyon State Park near St. George, Utah and Bryce Canyon. That should slow you down a bit.

I agree with SS -Pfeiffer beach at sunset and will also post a shot. If possible get to Yosemite only 3.5hrs from oakland. The upper altitude areas glacier point etc will not open til early to mid June but still worth seeing without a doubt. Talk your wife into more time!! Rich

Just north of San Simeon and Hearst Castle there is Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery. It is right on the coast highway. You might want to stop in for a Hearst Castle Tour, beautiful views from the top of the hill.

Hi
We have family in Ca. We visit almost every year. We have been up the Coast Highway to Hearst Castle. about 4 years ago. Hearst was the Newspaper guy. His daughter was kidnapped many years ago. Solvang is a beautiful little town. Lots of Danish Pastry shops. Music was played all day. Horse and buggy rides was the order of the day. And many wind Mill type stores. On your way to Solvang there is a place called Madonna Inn. It looks like a cave inside and has a Must see bathroom. Its strange. Big shells for sinks and a waterfall in the men's room about the size of a fireplace. If you go to the L.A. Arboretum you can visit the location of the old Fantasy Island house every Christmas they have a house tour. It was from the TV show. L.A. Arboretum , Its actually outside of Pasadena in Arcadia Ca. Santa Anita Race Track is also there. Huntington Gardens is in San Marino Ca. Hope you have a great trip !

Cannery Row in Monterey is a nice place to visit. Hearse Castle is another. Be sure to do the 17 Mile Drive. It's beautiful.

If you have time while in San Francisco, try the Stinky Rose restaurant. If you like garlic, you'll like this place.

Agreed! Julia Pffiefer Beach at sunset is one of the most spectacularly beautiful places I have ever seen! It is incredibly photogenic. Bring warm jackets, blankets, tripod and something warm to drink together. You might just fall in love again! Arrive early so you can scope it out. Sunsets happen rapidly. Don't miss it. The road to the beach is almost hidden and the locals keep taking down the sign to cut down on traffic. Look carefully and use a GPS if possible. Obviously I am jealous!

Si senior. Just one of many reasons I left California after 62 years. Lived not far from Upland too, in Lake Elsinore.

North of San Francisco just over the Golden Gate Bridge is Muir Woods. The Giant Redwoods are spectacular.
