My Wife and I took a trip while visiting our Kids in Altadena Ca. We went up the Coast Highway right before San Luis Obispo there is the Madonna Inn. They have a bathroom there you would not believe. Big ocean shells for sinks.
Looks like a large fire place in the Men's room.
When you urinate into it a waterfall starts and takes away the contaminated urine. It had red velour curtains. If you get to Pasadena. Out side of Pasadena is Huntington Gardens. Its close in San Marino Ca. Japanese Tea House is there and a Library and Art Museum. Hearst Castle is a ways up there. That's worth seeing. Hope this helps you out. Take Care, TangoKing (Paul)

You should have plenty of sights right from the highway. The surf at Monterey, Lake Tahoe, the cattle ranches around Elko, Nevada, also the entrance to the desert just east of Salt Lake City as you leave town.

Hi fellow Hogs,
My wife and I are going on a trip in April, that is going to take us up the coast highway. Years ago I lived in Santa Barbara but never took Hwy 1 . I am up for suggestions for places to visit and photograph between Solvang and Santa Cruz. Also any suggestions between San Francisco and Salt Lake. We will have around a week to make the trip, unless I can talk the misses into an extra day or ten (haha). Thanks ahead of time for your help!

Cambria, near Hearst Castle is worth a visit. Sea Otters in the early (dawn) morning...

SF to Salt Lake? Consider taking route 50, "The Loneliest Road in America". Probably three days...., one to Lake Tahoe, maybe a side trip to Virginia City, on the way to Ely Nevada (Hotel Nevada is iconic in this old mining town), the final one to Salt Lake. You can blast from SF to Salt Lake non stop along I-80 in a single, very long day, but I wouldn't recommend that...., I did it once....

Really depends what your objectives are....

So much opportunity, so little time....
