It's two years newer, so I'm guessing it might be as good or better.

Is the 7100 better than the 5500? Yes and no, it depends on what you are looking for in features and performance.

Sure it is newer, but it is a lower model, so it skimps on some of the features that the D7100 has.

I would stick with a D7100 till the next higher in the series comes out at least.

Hey, thanks very much. I was curious to hear what others think.

I'm very happy with my 7100 for now. I do wish it had the flip screen for low shots... and connect to wifi

One more place you may want to look.

I would stick with Cameta. KEH gets $30 more and you do not get the original box and accessories.

You can always add wifi to it with Nikons Wu-1 adapter, but in my opinion that has very limited use - since I shoot raw, wifi would be very very slow and transferring images.

The use of controlling the camera from a smart phone might be handy at times though.

I don't need anything right now, but I think I may
in the next year or so. Yeah, that smart phone is probably the way to go.

Just bought one to replace a D5100. Love it. Bought it from B&H. Thought I had a bad battery. B&H customer support was all over it, but it turned out the battery was ok. Love the camera. Love B&H

Fellow members, I'm looking into buying a refurbish by Nikon D7100. The price is $699. First of all, thoughts on the 7100 in general, and does that price sound low/high/medium?

Thanks to all.

I've had a refurbished D7100 for about 2 years now and absolutely love it. When I don't want to carry my brick (D3). I opt for the D7100 with a 18-200 mm lens for walk around. I took it to my grandsons Honors Orchestra performance on Friday night and shot pictures and a few short movies. All worked great. Best little do everything camera I own.

well it's got a better metal frame . dust sealed , water tight in the rain not
diving . and body was what around $1400 or a little more .the d5500 was what $600 body only when new , and more plastic less metal .

Good to know. thanks.
I was just thinking perhaps the tecnology in it might
make some difference, because it's 3 years newer.

I'm very happy with my 7100. Thats for sure.

Are you close to Canada. You can buy a new D7100 for 999.99 Canadian. $1 US equals $1.25 Canadian. Do the math, not bad for brand new.

Just bought mine from Adorama for the same price. It is a handful of a camera. Am looking forward to learning it and hope you enjoy yours as well. LOVE it so far.
