Fellow members, I'm looking into buying a refurbish by Nikon D7100. The price is $699. First of all, thoughts on the 7100 in general, and does that price sound low/high/medium?

Thanks to all.

Cameta Camera lists a factory refurbished D7100 body for 699, so the price is probably ballpark for a D7100 Refurb Body only.

You did not mention what dealer and if body only or body & lens.

Make sure of the warranty before you buy though.

Now, as to the D7100. I have been shooting a D7100 for over a year now and love it. It is a great camera for the money in my opinion.

I would trust Cameta Camera - I have purchased two cameras from them in the past, including a refurbished D5100 - no problems.

I would also trust Adorama and B&H.

There are other reputable places for sure, but there are also rip off places that are everywhere - just be sure of what you are buying.

If Nikon and Cameta have the same price my choice is Cameta and their one year warranty on refurbished.
In regard to the D7100 it is a great tool.

That was why I went with Cameta on my refurbed D5100, exactly.

Thanks for the reply. Adorama is the souce that I have been looking at. I guess my main question is about the anti-aliasing filter, or lack of. I currently have a D7000 and am wondering if the removal of that filter really makes any appreciable difference in sharpness.

Lots of info on that around the internet....

I am pleased with the sharpness I can get even with the kit lenses.

Better glass gets even sharper.

I bought a D7100 about a year ago as an upgrade from my D40, and I'm very happy with the purchase. The D7100 is the right size for my hand, light enough I can haul it easily for 6-7 hours of hiking, and has the features I want. I bought it for the better ISO range, greater burst rate and more sophisticated autofocus (another thread recently on that topic.) See http://www.seven-oaks.net/dickspics for examples. I use my 18-105mm lens for 99% of what I do.

I don't have the 7100, but have heard a lot of god things about it on this forum. I just got a refurbished D3300 from Cameta and am very pleased with it. I am debating on extending the warranty to 5 years for $79. Any recommendations?

Does that warranty cover breakage from dropping the camera or just mechanical failure?

I have both camera's, and there is a BIG difference between the two. There is a very noticeable difference in sharpness. I have had my D7100 for a year and a half and love it for what it will do. The price sounds with in the ball park! You will also be impressed with the focus system improvement, one of the best! Enjoy!!

I bought a camera from Cameta and had to use their one year warranty about two months before it expired. They replaced the camera, no questions.

I just bought the 5 year warranty which includes impact, sand and water damage for $74.95 from Cathy at Cameta. It was $5 less than on line. I figure $15 a year is cheap insurance plus no deductible.

Outstanding!

I bought a MACK diamond 3 year with my D7100 - covers accidental damage too. Cheap is right!
