No,no. he is growing elephant grass . He sells it to the rancher who raises Naughas for their hides.

Hi Linda,[/quote]
Sorry about this folks, I was trying to send a private message to Linda and the only way was to delete everything I had written to her and leave one word of the message intact, then highlight the rest then hit delete. If I tried deleting the entire message it always popped back up.
Very interesting Linda, it has got to be downloaded to get
the full impact of the picture, I like it. What are they growing?

I'd very much appreciate your opinion on this one. Is it interesting, boring, confusing?
Do you need to know what the worker is doing, or is there a general appeal (lines and patterns)? Or just not your cuppa? :)
Thanks so much for your time!
One thing for sure, Linda... it certainly creates curiosity as to what the person may be doing. I like it, if for no other reason. It sparks my ''What the heck?' trigger :)
Personally I really like it - the lines and shapes with the worker in the corner make it fascinating to look at in download. It's such a common sight around Yakima this time of year (I lived there many years ago) and most people who live there probably don't "see" it as you did. Even knowing what it is I still stopped, downloaded and became lost in the various elements of the photo simply because of the fascinating shapes and other elements.
Great shot!!!

I would like to see the subject (person more clearly).
It's intriguing for sure. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not until I looked at the download. Very sharp with great DOF. All the diagonal rods on the left are a bit distracting to me. A few less would have made it more pleasing to mu eye but you may not have been able to position yourself to achieve that.
I really like the composition on download. The image is mainly about lines and patterns in my estimation. I could have done without the two brown rods to the right of the subject, but you take what you're offered. Nice work with a scene that most of us probably wouldn't have seen.
Thank you all so much for your comments. It's been terrific reading the varied viewpoints. I really appreciate your taking the time to express your views.
The worker is stringing vertical lines to a top horizontal wire. Though they are similar to hops, these are actually for fruit trees.
The newer apple (and pear, I believe) orchards grow their trees short and close together, and train the limbs along horizontal wires. Efficient in many ways, and a whole different visual experience from our grandparents' gnarly hundreds-year old apple tree in the backyard :)
Download is best and interesting, I like it.

Had to think about this one Linda, my thought is, your photographers eye picked up what I call, the ingredients of a good/interesting image. You could probably compose it several ways which makes it a more complex problem. I know my mind started coming up with 2 or 3 versions right away. The lines draw you to the worker, one thought, a little cropping to bring the worker out more and maybe B&W. I would call shots like this fun and a challenge. Thanks for posting this!

Hmmm... I wonder if one can do both?

It is definitely not boring! It is interesting though busy, and I am terribly curious about what he is doing and how he's held up there, it looks like the ladder is airborne somehow. The criss crossed lines make me a little crazy but I did spend time looking and figuring and that is part of photographic success right there -to make folks look more than a second.
I would also be curious to see how it might turn out in monochrome, whether that might force us to focus on the patterns and not be distracted by the colors.
Too busy for me Linda,sorry.

It's obvious that the worker is doing
something, but it's not obvious what, so the viewer is left to think about what the worker might be doing.
That fact, together with the general curiousness of the environment that the worker is working in, make the shot both curious and thought-provoking.
And to that you could add the visual appeal of the complex patterns throughout the image. Definitely an engaging image  .
