Great shots. You have mastered the camera and lens to your advantage. I hope to be getting the 7D mark II later on this year. I just may have to call upon you for some needed advice of the camera settings. Keep up the good work.

Canon 7DMKII
Canon 300mm f/4 Prime
ISO 500
Aperture f/5.6
Shutter Speed 1/1000th

These are great! I have two shots of a pileated wp and I treasure them! They are not NEAR as great as these. Congrats!

I love these pictures, all of them. And I want to thank you so much for adding your camera settings. I am still learning and trying different settings. I know your exact settings probably won't work on my camera/lens and/or time of day, but at least it helps give me some ideas to try.

Great shots of a woodpecker which normally flies away when approached. Your images are really nice and sharp. I wonder how they know there is a worm/bug inside the wood. Do they smell them or do they hear them?

Every one is a prize winner! The ones with the tongue showing are my favorites.

One can hear those beauties before you see them. Thank you for sharing not only the photos but for telling how you did it.

You inspire me to pull out my big prime.

Were you using a tripod?

Even with a 300mm lens, you were quite close. Well done.
Woody appears to be using a twig-tool to maneuver grubs closer to the opening.
