Hello fellow photographers, I am wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions for an affordable photo backpack. I still shoot mainly film, using a Nikon N90 and Nikon and Sigma lenses. I also carry a flash unit and a few accessories. I am hoping to spend less than $200, as this is only one of my many hobbies. Thanks in advance.
If you need a Photo Backpack with a good hip supension belt system check out Click Elite's Action Photography Packs. Like a Camping Backpack, most of the weight is carried on your hips. This feature as well as being able to hold a hydration bladder and FF camera really narrows down your choices.
I have their Escape model, and it also has an external sleeve with drain for a hydration bladder. It will take a FF camera, I use it with my Canon 60D with Battery Grip and Sigma 150-500 Lens attached. Very comfortable and versitial design pack, and the quality is excellent as well. I bought the greenish gray color, although with a tripod attached in the external carrier, it makes it fairly obvious you are a photographer.
B&H carries some of the Click Elite product line, I purchased mine from them a few years ago

I just bought it to go with the other 5 I have. Finding the right one is impossible.

As many folks have already posted, the LowePro brand is well made and affordable. I have the AW100 that is discontinued but I have had it for about 5 years and I have not been kind to it and it has held up well. I'm thinking about getting a larger one. The AW100 was great with my Canon Rebel and one extra lens but it is a little tight with the Canon 50D and two extra lenses but it is still strong and easy to use and comfortable.
I went to Home Depot to the tool department and they had bags that could be used as camera bags... They had bags with wheels and without wheels ---bags for lenses all made real good by HUSKY
I bought the big bag with wheels for $169.00
bought LENS bags for $6.97 and $7.97
They also have a smaller bag with wheels for $69.00

I might have added that one of the best features of the Fastpack is the "drawer" in which the camera fits and can be quickly accessed. When I upgrade/replace I certainly will look for a bag that has this feature.

I recently got a Swiss Backpack.
I had an occasion to pitch something in the trashcan at the SIL/Daughters house. The Silly SIL had tossed his Swiss backpack out.
Nothing wrong with it. So I have re-purposed it. Cost: Zero.
New problem though.
Everything fits, but finding everything is kind of a PITA right now.
Too many places! It's shaking down though. ;)
My favorite bag is the Lowepro SlingShot 200AW. However it probably is too small for your gear. Next recommendation is the DSLR Video Pack 250AW also a Lowepro product. If this is still too small, there is always the 350AW. Just too heavy for me as I am no spring chicken anymore. :-(

I got a amazon basic and I love it. It's very sturdy, holds a large amount of gear and inexspensive.

It's a great bag if your equipment is fairly light. You're guaranteed to have the handle start tearing out after a few months if the equipment is heavier. I know it's not just me. If you look at the user review, other have encountered the same issue.
I now rely on the Lowepro FLIPSIDE 400 AW BACKPACK. It's considerably more substantial. I probably would have bought another ThinkTank bag if it met my needs. ThinkTank bags have much better zippers IMO.
