I took these shots yesterday in our barn. I like them all and am not sure which is the better composed. I like the close up, but I also like the pattern of the beams. I love the sun streaming in through the window and falling on the "junk". Some people in our family wouldn't call it junk but treasures.
These are all Straight Out of the Camera.
Which do you like best, what would you change, not change?
Thank you for your opinion.
I love the first one and the patterns, but for some reason there is a story in that third photo. I think the first one because of the patterns is my favorite, but that third one is right there too.
What kind of camera are you shooting with? I have to agree with Travis I like the third photo. 1. I would like to see more details in the shadows.
i think i like the first one. want me to tweak it to get more detail from the shadows?

A Nikon D3000 and this was taken with the kit lens. Handheld.

Be my guest. It is always interesting to see what others see in it.
ran it through ReDynaMix to lighten the shadow areas and bring out some of the detail...

Wow! Thank you, Now I just need to figure out how to get the same results with PSE. This looks great.

I like the first photo the best and how Rocky improved it. IMHO - I think the bright areas in the windows are distracting because my eyes go straight back to that area of the barn. You should try darkening them using an photo editing program. Arnold
Have you thought about shooting from other end, with natural light coming in from behind you? It may give you more of the effect, I think you were looking for.
I would, but I can't get as high. I was standing on a pile of hay that came up to the bottom of the windows. That would be the other problem is there are windows in the other end also, though probably no streaming light since it faces north. It also isn't as interesting-no junk just hay, but maybe I could climb to the top of the granary which is where all that stuff is stored and try it
Thank you for your suggestions. If I feel brave I just may try it.

I would love to see these in B&W, I think the pattern and textures would really come to life!
Here was my shot at lightening and reducing the glare of the windows. I think I would almost have to do and HDR to get rid of it. Maybe a project for tomorrow.

Mama, I realy like the subject, but is there any way you can go back and take the picture when the sun is up but, not coming through the windows.
I feel it over powers the shot, the light is to intense. You need the light, and maybe some back lit light for the photo.
Intense sunlight rarely looks good coming inside a room, especially a very dark room. It's really hard photo to get right when you have direct sunlight in one area and strong shadows in another.
Try taking it at another time of the day. See how that works. An overcast day may also work.
