At school lunch time, we would go around the neighborhood and collect coke bottles. The lady with the food stand near the school would allow us to trade bottles for small packages of cool aid, which we would eat.

With the big band sounds. That was toe tapping dance music.

Brill cream a little dab will do Ya...

and the Alka Seltzer jingle---Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is.
Do any of the Pittsburghers remember Paul Shannon's Adventure Hour?

How many of you had to carry water from a "spring" which would usually be located a few hundred feet down a hill from the main house. This water would be in 2-1/2 gal. galvanized buckets and you would carry two of them.....quite a feat for someone not yet in their teens. And, how about kerosene lamps...there was no electricity in our area at the time.....and, a radio that ran on a 6 volt car battery......listened to the Lone Ranger every day at 5 then Amos and Andy, etc. Took our baths in a big galvanized wash tub, every Saturday, HaHa! And, yes, I'm very familiar with the four tine "Pitch fork"......made hay when the sun shined, etc.....team of horses pulled the mowing machine and hay rake.....made hay stacks and later hauled the hay to the barn to feed a few live stock. And, yes we had a "path" and not a "bath".......remember no 'lectric...and, we did have a wind up "Victrola" and the 78 rpm records......do you remember any of them being 'bout 1/4 in. thick....we later used them for targets to shoot at..........should be worth a couple bucks now, eh!

OK

Who remembers when windshield washers were a bag on the floor you pressed with your foot.

I still carry tube sand for traction in the winter.
I can't stand chopped and boiled greens like spinach because it reminds me of silage.
The Sons of the Pioneers are awesome, Tumbling Tumbleweeds is still one of my favorite songs and don't forget Ghost Riders in the Sky.
I helped my cousins dig their last outhouse in 1973
A knife sharpener can still make a good living if they are sharp business people (pun intended)

Yes Gumby's horse was Pokie I believe, now that you mention it.

Can you imagine when all the current technologies and happenings,...are looked back on by a next generation of then 60-70 year olders,....I cannot even imagine what inovations will be common place then,....

Computers will be antiquated as horse transportation is to us today.

I guess we can be thankful that we lived through such memorable times and find interesting what others experienced in our age group.
This journey called life seems shorter when looking back but we have all seem many changes.

Enjoy hearing everyones past memories,...the farm and country living related ones are ones I never experienced but am sure I would have adapted to as others had to.
Hard work builds strong character and strong values that stead you long into life,....our generation is a standing testament to that.

Will stay tuned here for more wonderful comments, thanks

I vaguely remember that program. I was into science-fiction at the time. Remember Captain Video fighting TOBOR (robot spelled backwards) on Ch 2- on a Dumont TV and the Dumont Broadcasting Network? KDKA Radio and TV after Dumont merged with Westinghouse? How about the Pittsburgh Press or its competitor, Pittsburgh Sun-Graphic with the searchlight logo? Thems the good old days, fur sure.

Was Ricki & Copper, Romper Room and Captain Kangaroo shown in other states or were they just Pittsburgh shows?
Remember Underdog? George of the Jungle?

We had Romper Room and Captain Kangaroo in Maine. Don't remember the other one.
