depends on your budget. If you can afford the 5D3, wait until the 5D4 is available. 6D will do well in low light, If you're talking about indoor sports, though, I'd go with the 5D.

I use a Canon 7D at the moment but would like to take more landscapes and low light shots (indoor and out). Lenses I have are 50mm 1.4 , 100mm2.8 , 16-35mmF4L , 24-105L , 70-200MMF2.8 L and 400mmF5.6L. Would like to upgrade to full frame , which would you choose 5D3 or 6D.

I have been using a 40D and gave it to my wife for eBay and went to 50D then a 7D I finally bought a 5DIII. Non of the others com close to it. The new 7D II might, but the quality of the pictures even at high ISO are great.

If it's just landscape shots you're after, I would choose the 6D, because you don't need all the advances in the M3. The 6D is basically a 5D M2 with an improved sensor for improved low-light-performance. You also would save yourself a few $$$ by choosing the 6d and could use that towards purchasing some glass to go with it.

I own both cameras and would echo most of the comments made so far. I find the light weight of the 6D makes it much more practical for general travel and handheld photography, though I would prefer the 5D III for anything requiring exceptionally sophisticated autofocus. The 6D, together with the right lens, takes great photos in low light situations and I like the video. I'm sure the same could be said for the 5D Mark III, but the price difference is substantial. I think there is some merit to the idea that a 6D and a 7D II offer the best of both worlds and I am thinking about making the switch once I have had a chance to assess the 5D III successor.

Hi boxer, I have the 6d, I think it is a great camera for what you are requiring low light and landscapes. The attached photo was handheld in very low light where they store the wine in large barrels. No flash or tripod.

Sailor very nice shot.

I have had both and both take incredible pictures. I would, if money is not a consideration, take the 5DIII because it is just a more solid camera and is more versatile. The 6D is great in the studio and, I assume, for landscape/outdoor photography.

I have the 7D & the 5D3.
Hard to beat the 5D3 for inside, low-light shots.

Thank you Craig, I didn't mention it in the first post but the numbers for that shot were focal length 24mm, f 5.6, exposure was 1/6 second and the iso was 6400. I was using the Canon 24-105 L lens.

with that shutter speed it was definitely before we started tasting any wine!!!

Thanks for the reply. I do like to take BIF and the grandkids running about , my 7D is fine for this if the light is good but do not like going above 400 ISO because of the noise.

Beautiful BIF Boxerdognaz.

Stats are accurate, I was traveling ultralight with no tripod on a mostly dreary day. Thanks for the info.

I recently went through the same dilemma. Did a lot of research both online and at local camera shop. 5D is better for video and action shots. The extra AF points are a plus for action and if that is what your looking for then this is the camera for you. I was more interested in landscapes and low light. the 6d performs better in low light (and auto focus performs much better in low light)... for me I had no interest in the video but was looking more for the high ISO with low noise. I also mostly use manual focus (live view) for landscape shots. I went with the 6D and have been very happy with it.

In couple of months you can get 5d3 for very good prices as Canon is expected to launch the new 5ds this week.

You may see the 5DIII become a little lower in price but the 5Ds is in another class. It might share the 5D name but it's a different animal.

When the 5ds is announced officially it will be interesting to see the full spec and of course the price.
