I use a Canon 7D at the moment but would like to take more landscapes and low light shots (indoor and out). Lenses I have are 50mm 1.4 , 100mm2.8 , 16-35mmF4L , 24-105L , 70-200MMF2.8 L and 400mmF5.6L. Would like to upgrade to full frame , which would you choose 5D3 or 6D.

I own both. Money aside, the 5D is the way to go. The autofocus system on the 6d may not even be as refined as your 7D (especially the newest model). Still a good camera, but be good to yourself. The 5D has a more solid build (magnesium alloy body). You can justify the extra expense by humming "Happy Birthday to Me" while you're enjoying the incredible focus options and low light capability of your 5D. Happy Birthday to You!

I have the 5DIII and love it. The only thing I can say negative is when I have the battery pack and the 100-400L lens on it, it can get very heavy. I bought a harness to compensate the pull on the neck

Thanks for the reply. I only have EF lenses so that is not an issue, was thinking to the future when I bought them

I've stated before that I own a 6D and I'm very happy with it. I chose it based on price, fit in my hands ( it is a little smaller and lighter than the 5D Mark III). It does well in low light, as well. I suppose a down side would be that I only have 11 focus points, but I consistently use my center focusing point and recently set my camera to BBF. I use primarily the 24-105, but I also use a 50 mm 1.4, 17-40, 70-200 4.0. The 6D works for me and I'd buy it again. Good luck with your purchase.

I would think that the 6D would suffice. Picture quality SHOULD be nearly the same between the two bodies. Unless you want features found only in the 5DIII, the 6D should do all you want it to do, and it's quite a bit less expensive. Looks like Canon has a current $300 mail-in rebate on either camera.
You might also consider a 5DII. You might still be able to find some new 5DII bodies new, and probably for less than the 6D, even after rebate. I have and love my 5DII and would never use many of the additional features in the 5DIII.

Thanks for the reply. No rebates over here in England yet but shouldn't be too long now with the new models coming out soon.

Thanks for the reply. Using centre point is ok most of the time but depth of field becomes an issue if you have to recompose when down to f1.4 or even f2.8. Thats where the extra cross points help.

Both are good, If money is not an issue go with the 5d3 as others have suggested. You won't be disappointed and it is quite a bit more versatile in it's capabilities.

I just bought the 5D3. I will tell you that it is awesome. Although there is some substantial weight with the added grip, I love the secondary set of buttons for shooting vertical. I kept my 7D because it's a great camera too. I bought the 24-70mm 2.8 II with it. Talk about tack sharp! I'm in love.

I don't think my comment will be of much use to you, but I'll make it anyway. I just purchased the 5E Mk III and I'm really disappointed in it. I have yet to get a truly in focus image with it! Yesterday I actually did a test, as I also have a new lens and thought perhaps it was the lens. I put my L lens on that I've had for a while and KNOW it gives good images every time and I still got 30% out of focus images - on a tripod with the remote! When I put the new Tamon lens on it, my percentage of in-focus images drops even more. I tried the Tamron lens on my 1D Mk IV, and it was about 50%. So, the lens isn't great, but neither is the 5D Mk III!

The 1DX is now on sale. If I could trade the 5D for it, I surely would! I bought the 5D based on considerations of full frame and less weight. I'm sure sorry I spent the $$!

Canon is offering a $300 mail in rebate on both cameras from Feb 1-28 for both cameras. Good timing. I was just checking these two out yesterday. Information is straight from their website. List price $3099 and 1799. You've got the whole month to think about it and could wait to see what the new ones are going to look like, among later this week.

Tried to delete this when I realized your in England but obviously I wasn't successful. Sorry

I picked up the 5Diii when it came out. I use Canon L lenses with it for vacation landscapes and seascapes, local events, sporting events, and birding. This camera body is the real deal and I am still growing with its capabilities. You will be thrilled with the 5D3.

Thanks for all the replies , think I will be looking for a new 5D3 in the next few weeks. Must keep my eye out for discounts on this camera as new models come out . Might need to be quick as I am probably not on my own thinking about this camera.
