Quite a bit of discussion about PP in photography this morning.

To add to the discussion or create a new one, here is an image and two pp versions of same. What do you think; does PP aid to the beauty of the image? Posting three images. Please try the downloads.
Your first pp - adjusting exposure, maybe clarity? For me it does add a richness of tone, though possibly is a bit dark. So difficult when everyone's monitors have different brightness.
#3 - sorry, but it's a very busy effect that distracts from your sweet squirrel portrait :|
I like them all Jim, excellent work.
I prefer your first post, #2 seems to have to much brown and a little dark. #3 well I love nature and PP should be used to enhance the subject. Just MHO
I really like the artistic rendering you offer in the third here. Turns an annoying little varmint into a cutie I can admire
The original, in my opinion, is the best picture of the set.
I strongly prefer the original.
My preferences, not a criticism Jim:
The first try is the most appealing. I viewed it on my main computer and with varying levels of brightness on my IPad. It is a bit to dark in all, for my taste.
Also, the little guy's head is too centered and, looks better to me a little more to the right -- in the right hand third. There is more tree trunk than is needed and a reasonable crop would look after that.
Also, the important thing is that you first want to get it to how it pleases you most and not what a gauntlet of critics say.
Have fun my friend.
Pierre
I prefer the original, but if it were mine, I'd bump the unsharp mask a little.... maybe 100 x 1.2, one click up on the red balance and brighten it a little. Maybe put the squirrel on the thirds a little more. JMHO
