Good suggestion on renting a lens. Suggest contacting Tempe Camera and Repair in Tempe for rental. A few minutes East of I-10, you can stop on your way North, pick up lens, continue on. Reverse for trip back to Tucson. Great people to work with. Save the space in luggage. Lol
Contact TCR and reserve the lens before you go. Great place. I worked there while attending ASU. Dave Hunsaker can answer most any photo question you have and if there are any camera problems Joe W. can get you going. If you do go say hi for me (Lawrence Huber)
The 10-18 is good for the canyon. But do not discount telephoto lenses for close-up details or shots of the mules going down or an interesting bird or critter. So much to see there. Also do not forget some of the wonderful buildings and structures on the south rim and get photos of them, inside and out.
